Title: Nitro Lite
Post by: KiteChemist on January 22, 2014, 04:51 AM
Hi to all  :)

Have you tried this new type of Shyskark Black Diamond Spars? Judging on the specs they seem to be UL-like spars. It would be great to hear from someone that tried them how they behave in terms of responsiveness (compared to a 3pt), ruggedness and weight.

Since Skyburner is a forum sponsor:

Looks to be same weight as a 3PT with a Nitro diameter. Have not tried them yet but should be similar in comparison as a regular Nitro to the 5PT.

Got a link to them?

Sounds like a good alternative to hard to find GForce-ULs

^my thoughts exactly.
The G-Force UL is one of my favourite spars, unfortunately I've broken far too many.  :-X

This is a new tube in our line up at Sky Shark . We had requests for a tube similar to the original G Force UL.  The Nitro lite is 32.5" and weighs 12.5 grams.  It has the same I.D. as our other nitro tubes at .285 and the O.D. on large end is .320  The small end O.D. is approx. .250.  This is an unsanded tube unlike the other nitro's.  This tube also does not have a build up on the large end which means you can cut from either the large or small end.  You can cut up to 6-8" from the large end.  The deflection is stiffer than the 3pt.  As far as durability is concerned, we haven't done real extensive testing on it yet but so far so good.  The one factor with using this larger diameter tube is that you need to use the larger APA connectors as opposed to the smaller lighter TAPA's.  Hope some of this info helps.

Definetly a tube i will be using, given it holds up in natura to the stress.

Now you need to bring out a sul nitro tube, something like 9-10 grams and bring back the response zero gold, best tube you guys ever build :)

So I ordered some of the Nitro Lites.  They weigh the same as the 3PTs but are considerably stiffer.  My crude Deflectometer setup measures the static deflection of the 3PT at 1 3/4" and the Nitro Lite at only 1 1/4".  For comparison the P200 also deflects at 1 1/4", the Nitro std at 1", and the Nitro Strong at 7/8".  If you want to see something bend, the ZAs deflect at 4"!

Here is my crude tube comparison table:

Tube                  Weight        Weight (4)   Deflection @ 4.5 lbs

SS Zero Air   7.0 gr, .25 oz   1.0 oz   4"
SS 2PT            8.5 gr, .35 oz   1.4 oz   2 5/8"
SS 3PT            12.5 gr, .45 oz   1.8 oz   1 3/4"
SS Nitro Lite   12.5 gr, .45 oz   1.8 oz   1 1/4"
SS 5PT            15 gr, .55 oz    2.2 oz   1 7/16"
SS Nitro            15 gr, .55 oz    2.2 oz   1"
SS Nitro Strongs   18 gr, .65 oz   2.7 oz   7/8"
SS 7PT            20 gr, .7 oz.   2.8 oz   1 3/16"
