Title: Bad day to be one of my kites.
Post by: Untitled on June 22, 2009, 07:03 PM
After 11 months since I purchased my first real stunt kite and flying with no incidents today I snap a lower spreader on my Zephyr and poked a hole on the sail of my poor beat up Silver Fox 2.3.
Sad sad day.

Hey, if you weren't flying nothing would ever happen to them!

I broke a spar in the leading edge of my Holey Rev™ (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v390/skb/kite%20pics/holey_rev_water.jpg) while flying it in the surf yesterday. Swapped out one of the verticals for the LE spar and tightened up the bungie to make up the difference and flew the rest of the afternoon. Fixed it when I got home.

Oh my, that looks so good with the water reflection and woodsy background.

I usually break a stick 2 or 3 times a year. Sails..... I've been more fortunate.

As a friend of mine once told me decades ago:

"Experience gained is directly proportional to equipment ruined."  :o

Blew a lower spreader on my Saber at ODSKC.  Put a 2-3 inch rip in the sail.  Later, I was shown a hole in my new Saber UL that looked like it was caused by a hot ash from a cigarette.  8)

But you know what?  Replace the rod, tape the holes and go fly the heck out of em.  ??? Before it is all said and done, there should be plenty of wear and tear on it.  If not, you aren't getting out and flying enough.  ;D

Saw that, and I winced when it happened!

That would make me insane :)  I can handle damage that I cause through normal use, because it's my own doing; someone else's cigarette, though... Well, you're a calmer guy than I am, I suppose!

The damage in your kite is just kid stuff and easy repair.

Let me talk about my BAD WEEK  :'( !  Not day :P.

In the period of one week a month ago, I managed to put three big damages into the sail of my Fearless. One near the end of the spine from a cutter(2in. cut) during a repair work and the other near the right standoff connector(a big opening like a cross 1.5in. in size). Then a few days later when I was flying the Fearless in the park, my Fearless went into some fighting kite line and the left wing got a big big cut :-X.

Now all the wounds are repaired and the Fearless looks like Scareface now but still flying high / do all the tricks and learning new one too :D.

It is truly a Fearless kite ;D.

*My Fearless STD is only 3 months  :'( LD.

Broken rods, holes in skins, wings torn off, blown out skins are
all part of kite flying.  :( We all knew things like this can happen.
It's not the end of the world, but it still sucks when it happens,
And I've had my fair share of all of it.

 ;) ;D
I HATE WHEN THAT HAPPENS....(however over the years, why do some of my best flying kites....seem to have the most rashed-trashed-rubbed through-multi-repaired spars...and sails that look like they have been attached by buzzards or cougars looking for a quick snack?
(bye the way...flew my Silver Fox 2.5 so calle Ultra light...in some pretty stiff 20mph breeze off the Purdy beach here at low, low, low...-3 Point n' then some tide.
Even that rather new SILVER FOX of mine is seems to be flying betta' and better...now that it is picking up some pretty ugly beach trash burns and worn spots.
Moral of this....Hummm? Perhaps just takes a while to  train my lame brain and demented muscle memory thang' thing? :-\ ::)
