Black kites fly faster (http://groups.google.com/group/rec.kites/browse_thread/thread/875eaa96ebed5d84/f432cb7e1a702a01).

Not entirely black but I fly my custom grey fade WM here at the equator, 80 - 90 degrees with 80 - 90 %humditity. Still holding up fine. I remember someone mentioned before that the humditity and heat of your environment will also play a part in how a kite flies, though I can't really tell that.

I really like black kites - they show up well against blue or cloudy skys.   The blacker, the better IMO.

The only problem is that they look so darn good that you tend to draw a crowd!  :)

The only problem might be trying to fly whilst people come up to compliment you on an unusual choice.

All black DS I hope.

Black kites only look good in bright sunlight. But then, they look, really, really good.
Take a look at the black Gem. With the white of the other 2 Gems messing with my camera, the black Gem just looks flat when it should just look hot. I'm including some other pics of mostly black kites.

You mean like this  ;D

Sweet looking rides 8)

"You are my son Luke"... So it appears there's more than one 'Dark side'.  :-\

I always thought it would make 'orientation' during sequences harder to follow, I get lost every once in a while, even with a slightly asymmetrical design.

All black is something I aspire to...

Thought you hated black/rainbow kites, Allen.

I had a charcoal XTr, mighty fine looking kite. In polyester, the black flashes silvery tones throughout the panels.

Although its not all black it looks great in the sky, (I think John has a airborne pic) and tracks like its on rails.

Not that one, it's special.

But generally, you're right I don't care for rainbow fabric.

Here's my favorite black kite:

Hmmm, I have one of these that I've considered letting go.  I love the looks but it just doesn't get flown as much as it should.  I'll take it out tonight and see what kind of condition it's in (should be excellent).

Black is too heavy for UL or SUL kites.  ;)

jim

MPO jim is correct. Black would fit a vented kite better. But of course that is a personal opion.

black and SUL is the ultimate irony as far as kites are concerned - it totally works!

Power and a solid statement of solid black - just amazing IMO.  Heavy and solid, but flys in nothing - sweet!
