Title: Monster Std.
Post by: Stuart99 on August 02, 2014, 07:20 AM
Just finished this up and will be taking it to the beach tomorrow to give it a whirl. Built to the designer's specs (6mm carbon and 5pt). In the spirit of the other Monster builds that have been posted lately, I used florescent yellow thread for 90% of the stitching. I will be happy if it flies half as good as it looks.

Thanks for looking,
Stuart

Very nice quality and craftsmanship.  Hope she fly's as good as you sewed her. :-* :-* :-*   If so you got a winner... Good Luck  ;)

Nice job Stu! Looks great! You'll have to bring it with you if you make it to TI in January!

Looks great!  I'm actually considering using some exel rods, as I see that Jon and Marieanne are stocking them now.

I would have preferred the excel rods, they added them a day after I received my order of regular pultruded.  >:(

I figured that I would post an update/mini review since I just got back from the beach.

The lower wind range of the kite is on par with the other standard kites I have. I never got wind over 10mph, so I do not know what the upper range is, I suppose that it will be a little less given the mostly pultruded frame. I expected the heavier rods to kill the bottom end, but I did not feel like it did at all.

This kite really loves half-axel cascades, I could do them all day if I wanted to. I found the jacob's ladders to be a bit easier to pull off with this kite than some of the others. It also easily goes into a fade, but it doesn't hold a fade as well some other kites in my bag. I may need to add a few more grams of weight to the tail.

Precision wise it is definitely a freestyle kite, but I could make figures just fine with smooth wind.

Overall, I think it is a keeper.

I like the Monster.  It convinced me to take on the Exile project though. Yours look good.
