Title: quality kite under 150$
Post by: adx1592 on July 07, 2009, 10:58 AM
Hey guys, i know this is a longshot..... ???
but my friend whos getting into kiting (whos a very natural flyer) 's birthday is comming up in under a month now. His mom wants to get him a kite- i told her about BMK's and she didnt like that price(to high), so im posting this---

We need to find a good kite for him thats 150 dollars or less. Good at precision and Tricking. Dosent have to be a trick monster, but enough for the standard stuff. (lazys, backspins, cascades, JL's, that stuff).

PLLLEEEAAASSEE help! I gave him an HQ phoenix and he has a FirstStep, but the phoenix isnt exactly the best thing around, and the 1st step is a beginnner kite...

help!!! ideas?

If its over 150 i was thinking the E3, or the E2, but i dont recall how they are at precision.
I know SilverFox's are good for the money, but the build is not so great. Maybe the Insync?
Premier Magnum?
Widow?

For the <$150 price range, I'm a fan of the Silver Fox 2.3 UL (http://www.chicokites.com/store/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=98) or Silver Fox 2.3 Standard (http://www.chicokites.com/store/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=97).
There is a large overlap in the wind ranges of the Standard and UL, so go for whichever colour you prefer.

thanks guys. so far i have...

Freestylist
SF's
Insync.

I was really thinking about suggesting the Magnum though, i havent flown it but i heard it was right up there with the nighthawk when it came out. and i THINK its a fullsized kite, wich is what im really looking for for them. Anyone have one that they can comment on?

The Silver Fox 2.3 is a very trick capable kite and very predictable in flight and in that price range.

The quality is not as high as some kites, but once you have given it a round of Super glue on C-clips, tail weight etc you shouldn't have any significant problems. (I always carry super glue in my bag when I am flying my SF's  :D).

The standard is also a tough kite for a beginner.

cheers

steve

An E2 for $130 is a great deal.

With the nice case, excellent line set & straps and a DVD, it's a nice gift package.

I would snatch up that E2 before they are all gone.  Great kite and it even comes with the Prism Freestyle Pilot training DVD.  I doubt you will find a better bargain for under 150.00.

FW SF 2.3

But.

Even better would be to cough up the extra for a BMK Muse.

These have all been mentioned already but there are some nice fliers in that price range:

Freestylist, Excellent quality, super nice slots, 540s etc. and fades about as good as it gets.
Silver Fox, It'll do just about all the tricks and decent precision too.
Widow, I have two Widow Makers, they are very trickable kites and the tricks look good. Cuts a nice corner also.
The new Insync looks like an interesting choice and has the lowest price too.

Magnum isn't much of a modern trick kite, I would look at the Widow over it. I didn't get a chance to try the Insync (http://www.chicokites.com/store/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=270) yet but Steve seems to like it, I did get to look it over and the construction is as good or better then anything in it's class. I really like my Freestylists, excellent build & value. The Silver Foxes (http://www.chicokites.com/store/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=94) have a pretty loyal following. And as always for under $100 the Prism Quantum  (http://www.chicokites.com/store/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=29) is a fine, reliable full size kite for begineers that will take you pretty far and you'll keep it in your bag for years.
