Title: Prism I2K Spectrum building
Post by: Svolazzo on July 08, 2009, 02:44 PM
Here is the building of my brand new Spectrum I2K, not one of the most sought after kites, but I love it in such a colour scheme.
I grabbed a brand new sail at Steve's bargains and after some weeks I found the time to build my brand new I2K.
Here is the sail:

I have another used Twilight I2K with the update set that Mark made to fix the issues of the first batches of I2K. The set included new bridle, new standoffs and the suggestion to cut down the lower spreaders to 770 mm length.
So I made the new bridle coping the updated one, here it is:

Here are the new stand offs, 3 mm rods from Steve:

Then I ordered from Steve and cut down all the SkyShark 3PT as LEs, 5PT as LSs and P100 rods as Spine and US, besides all the fittings and ferrules. Here is the frame:

Here are the wing tensioners:

And finally the fully assembled I2K, I'm looking forward to have a flying session to see how it flies.

Hope you'll enjoy it  :)

I've known folks who really loved their I2Ks. When I was flying one it took a while to get it adjusted to my liking, but it was a nice flying kite. It's unique.

Have Fun!

I flew an early edition/un-updated all cloth I2K for a few seasons and learned the backspin & Jacob's Ladder on it.
It took a lot more tuning to keep it flying right than any other kite that I've ever owned, but it had a huge wind range with the Spoilez.
I liked it best when it was the only kite I flew as it seemed to take a very specific touch to get the best out of it.
