Title: What are you flying? Late Winter 2009 Version
Post by: Dolphinboy on March 13, 2009, 10:45 AM
Because of a severe lack of wind, for the last 4 months or so, I've almost exclusively been flying my Fearless SUL. Finally, we got some wind the last few days and although it's very crappy wind ;D it sure was nice to fly a standard for a change.

The breakdown:

Fearless SUL 95%
Mohawk XS UL 3%
Widow Maker 1%
Nirvana FX 1%

My favorite flying is in light winds so I've been happy as a clam flying my TrickTail UltraLite lately.  We have had a few high(er) wind days and I broke out my purple/black Viper and both Chris and I have enjoyed flying it with a purple transition tail.  Quite the crowd pleaser too I might add.

I got onto a STD Exile at Kite Party... Really nice kite, hadn't had a chance to fly it before.

Like it enough that I'm considering getting one.  ;D

Before I moved them on I flew the Challenger Mondrian and Miró demo. kites as much as I possibly could. By choice I'll fly my pimped Fury .85s in lower winds and my Androgyn when the wind allows.

TBH I like a bit of variety and like to air out the contents of the A-bag whenever possible.

Mike.

I've settled on my Cosmic TC std as my most used kite ATM. It has the size and fluid trick speed I like. The Talons are next on the list. I just started flying again after a thumb injury (cricket) - I got bailed up by dogs the last two times I popped out for a "relaxed" fly. It's a bit stressful when you're risking your kite every time. Oh, for a dogless field......

Cheers,
Mike

The kites that have been out of the bag the most lately

  • Widow Maker - I still get the best results trying new things with it
  • BMK Muse w/Nitro's - By Ken, not my workshop kite
  • BMK Exile w/Nitro's
  • SkyBurner Freestylist
  • Premier Wolf
Notice a pattern? I obviously like a rigid kite, all these have very little flex and I can hammer them.

I've been flying my new Nebula by Four Winds kites as much as possible. I mix in my Sea Devil and Exile, depending on the wind. Once in a while I fly a QPro to see if I've learned anything...

I've just had a session with a X-Masque Rage, can't understand why people don't like them :o
A couple of weekends back a Midi 98 with a bit of weight and a tweaked bridle, that was fun.
Rest of the time mostly Mantis when I've had chance.

I must get another P200 framed Mantis, they have a nice laid back feel that the Nitros took away a little.  8)

I've been loking forward to flying my Premiere widow and Exile, but a couple of weeks ago I fell in the ice and broke my elbow :(   Still, the weather's kinda cruddy with a few inches of snow alternating with muddy conditions, so by the time it cleans up I'll be flying my Widow and Exile ;D

Lately, winds have been light here, so it's been my Sano SSL's.
Now that the winds are coming back up again, it'll be my Widowmaker and new Deep Space.

At Kite Party I flew:

AerZero 25%
Prophecy 25%
Reactor Pro 25%
Stiletto 10%
Midi 5%
Misc 10%

That's pretty much the mix in real life, but being winter more on the AerZero and generally a lot more Midi than Proph.

I'd agree with that.

I've haven't been flying much. Two new kites - one completely new, a Ghost, and one old new kite, L7 - have gone unflown.

But, what flying I have done has mostly been on the DS.

Looking forward to Spring.

Video???

Yep, that's the plan Steve.  Yesterday was the first fly to get an impression of its performance with an eye to making a video.  I was pretty quickly reassured that a decent video will be quite do-able, so now I just have to get a nice sunny weekend day and sane winds.  :)

There's also SoH III to do - that one's going to feature the new pimped Skyshark Gemini.

You would need a rudder on the kayak for that to work.

winds have been so high most of the winter, only a foil and the QPro VV have been out of the bag, but I've gotten a couple of flights on the new Christmas present, Exile standard in P200 framing, I really like the feel of that kite, think it'll be my go to kite this year.

Haven't gotten in a lot of flying recently.  When I do I go for my Blue Moon 61/49, Exile and Mantis or Will Sturdy Saber.

I flew a few old friends recently: Blue Moon Mojo, Level One Thor's Hammer and Flying Wings Pandora's Box.

These days I only ever fly my Talon Standard or my Talon UL. If the wind is absolutely too low for the UL I may get out the Akuji SUL - if the wind is too high I either just use the Standard or don't fly (I've sold my Akuji vented).
