Title: Roseville, CA - time for a fly ?
Post by: Dano on September 03, 2009, 03:53 PM
I say it's time for us to schedule another Roseville fun fly,
like how about next month sometime.
What say YOU?

I'm game.

How's the wind this time of year?

I've been wanting to go up to a Chico fly, but it's just too damn far.

Maybe we can get Chico to come south a bit..  :)

Westerly Deta Breezes are already calming down.  The north winds will be blowing by the end of September though.

I am interested. I would like it to drop about 10 degrees though.

Always San Francisco  (http://www.gwtwforum.com/index.php?topic=984.0) in two weeks, Temps will certainly be cool. Steve & Chris should be coming along with Rhonda & me for the two days. David Gomberg is scheduled to be there along with Dean Jordan, Jose Sainz, Scott Skinner, Barry & Karen Ogletree, Dave Sablino & a good contigent of Power Kiters, Brian Champie, Jim Strealy and on & on. Of course Troy Gunn will be there again providing co-ordination and color from the sound tent and on the field.

Visit the website for full details (http://www.familydaykitefestival.org/), this event keeps growing under the enthusiasm of the promoter Ron Young with a growing list of sponsors & participants. This year looks to be an even better event then first three and really should be on your schedule.

I wasn't asking about a San Francisco fly, Mike.

Just pointing out something that is already coming up & within an easy daytrip of the Roseville gang. I don't recall any of them making this event in the past and since we look forward to it as much as WSIKF I think it really is a worthwhile event which would only be better if you all were there too.

Of course we would be up for any fly in Roseville too.

Apples & Oranges.

Gettiing a group of people together to fly and hang out vs. sharing limited field space with show flyers and civilians.

My lasting impression of the first S.F. Festival was lack of space. It would be fun to go and watch, but it's not a flyer friendly event.

Post by: King-J on September 06, 2009, 07:56 PM
Just flew yesterday at Buljan Park, not to bad, better wind then at the Festival this year.
I would be up for a fun fly.
Not going to be able to make it to S.F. will be at Bodega Bay (Blow By the Bay) that weekend for our annual family get together, hopefully the wind is just right. Events we do, lots of Kiting and some Metal detecting, (Picking up that Jewelry people lost), and lots of food. Four days of R&R :-\ (But lots of exercise to burn off that food) ;)

I would most definately be up for a Fly in Roseville.

I am new to this sport and any time I can connect with others who can help me learn or just hang out with would be great. I live in Elk Grove, so the trip would be easy. My folks live in Paradise, so that will give ma an excuse to go to Chico for the next Fly.

Hope to see you in Roseville.

Talked to not Bob the other day and he will be out of the state until late October.  He and his dad are going on a father son cross country road trip.

Maybe we need to schedule a Halloween fly in Roseville.  Break out your orange and black kites.

Hello All,

Breezy here in Lincoln....

Okay to "crash" your fly-in at the end of October?

I'm new to the sport and I'd enjoy watching some experienced folks fly...

I don't have a lot of experience, but plenty of enthusiasm   :)

C'mon and join us breezy ... enthusiasm is all that is required.  I venture to say that we all have more of that any skill or expertise  ::).

So to get this straight ... we're planning on a Saturday Oct. 31st fly at Buljan Park in Roseville.  I'll call not Bob this evening and let him know to expect company.

Thanks everyone.

SWMBO just reminded me to check my calendar, and lo and behold, we'll be enroute returning from a convention in San Luis Obispo.  :(

I'll keep watching your posts and maybe I can join you another time.

When we have some delta breezes, do you normally fly at Buljan Park?

Holly Toledo, I might be able to hand out some Candy ;D,  haven't done that in years, no-one ever seems to trick -or-treat around here, 98% of my neighbors are all retired, (Lucky Them) not many kids with in 10 miles of my house. I will bring some, and maybe a Carved Pumpkin

If the wind is blowing we could have a mass Aerobe ascension.
And if it isn't we could have an freestyle Aerobe comp.  ;D

Sorry all, but Mike and I will not be there. That is one of Mike's mom's favorite family holidays. She decks out the house and the entire family kids, grandkids and great grandkids all go to Grandma's house for Chili and cornbread. Then we all go out to take the kids trick or treating. She does not ask a lot from us and I do not want to deny her this. Besides the day after is the Chico monthly fly so why not all come up here. Mike and I will even spring for the fixin;s for a BBQ. So how about it gang Chico Nov 1st for us all to get together.

It was a Great day hanging with everyone, talking kites, flying, eating gourmet wieners...
I don't know if anyone took pictures, though I doubt it. There was very little time we were all busy, kites in the air, changing to heavier line, grabbing vented kites as the wind came up, pulling in the big stuff to prevent damage.
I have never been to Roseville and experienced lab grade winds before.
What a day! Wow!
Thanks all for a great day, Geo.

Just curious as I'm fairly close.  I definitely need to check out this park.

Sorry to bump such an old thread.

Haven't heard on Roseville, depends on sponsorship, money was tight this year. Buljan isn't really a good place to fly, John (KingJ) has scouted about every suitable park or school in that area and could steer you to better area's. He has them marked on Google Maps but dang if I can find it.

We're only 90 minutes north of you. We get together the first Sunday of every month, 6-7 or more flyers,  although it was pretty much a bust last Sunday with half the flyers out sick but Denny, Rhonda and I showed up.

San Francisco is Sept 18th & 19th which isn't too far from you either.

I'd look in the opposite direction if I were you. Down in the S.River Rd. Antioch Ave. Jefferson Blvd. area. If you can get permission to fly in one of the many fields down there the wind is much better than it is up in the hills.
Davis has pretty good wind too.

Anyone interested in a road trip to west Fairfield next spring?  They are building a community park less than a block from my house.  Will have several acres of "multi-use" fields.  Winds are usually nice until mid May.  After that, winds will be in the 10-15 range minimum after noon.

looking at the map, it looks like that area that the wind almost blows the truck over, just north of Suisun Bay and Grizzly Bay. Past couple of trips for concrete job in Moraga the wind was blowing 25+ in that area, maybe the spring is different(http://bestsmileys.com/thumbs/7.gif)

Thanks for all the recommendations, I'm definitely going to try making one of the Chico flys.  Also planning to go to the festival in SF this weekend.

Regarding Roseville, I used to fly out @ Maidu park but I'm not sure if it's still feasible.  Haven't been there in years.
