Title: The September Old School Revival
Post by: chilese on September 04, 2009, 01:27 PM
In honor of the Old School thread, the "A Bag" has received an extensive redo.

The new old bag (my first kite bag (an MLD)) now has:

No Revs
Spica Pro
C21X Prototype
Vapor
Elixir (capable of most modern tricks (maybe all))
Bad Boy
Tracer (2)
Styx City
T2 (don't tell Bambi)
Mojo standard (yes Steve Hall, the ugly green one)
Mojo UL
Midi Sandpiper
Pulse (Buena Vista)
Widow Maker UL (hey, it's my newest kite so it stays)

Go ahead, pull out some old stuff and start the fall with a flat axel.  :)

There may be photos in the near future.

SL7 will have to wait for "Curved Keel Month".

Yeah, if I want that much abuse, I'll just argue with Bambi.  :-X

Not sure if these qualify.

Peter Powell 12 stack
Rainbow Stunt Kite (I think) 29-30 total ( I traded 18 for the Peter Powell)
Hawaiian Team kite (pre-whisker)
Avenger 3-stack
No Na Me 4 stack

What do you think, old school or not?

No Revs
why not? Revs have changed very little since '88

All I did was change my 5% of flying time on Revs down to 0%.

Just a personal choice. After all, I do own 2 of them. And 1 is from 1988.

kiteking, not sure how these youngsters classify those, your list qualifies as "Old School" in my book; pre-axel kites, if it ain't moving foreward it's new to me. I seem to recall we drove those newfrangled automotorbiles to the kite field to fly them so they can't really be prehistoric ... although we didn't have  phones in our pockets so I could be wrong.

No Powells in my bag, they couldn't fly in our lower winds, there are TRLBY's, Rainbow's, Hawiian's. Spin-Off's, Avenger, Wind Jammer, a Rev 1 & Rev II, FlexiFoil 6 & 8 and of course 150 foot kevlar lines. Professor Waldoff Boxes, Grandmaster & Vic's fighters, Goodwin's Asteriod.

There's old school and there's old school...

Pre- or non- axel would be one type or era.

'90s kites built with some level of slack line tricks in mind is another.

Any kite that's not designed to roll up could be considered old school, I guess.

john, i am extraordinarily grateful in the generous sharing of your treasure trove. i realize the rarity of the opportunity you afford those of us lucky enough to fly with you weekly, to experience your passion and collection. not just to view and wonder, but to fly each of the gems you bring out to the field.

thank you.

I am lacking Spin-off, Wind Jammer, and a Rev 1, and my FlexiFoils are 4 & 6, haven't had the Kevlar out for years

Not sure if I should, I think my arms are 6" longer after flying the Peter Powell (11) stack at KP7 last February
