Title: SkyShark Update! (was: A disturbance in the force?)
Post by: Steven Hall on October 14, 2009, 11:48 AM
There has been a rumor running around that the Sky Shark P200 has been discontinued.  That is a fact.  It is also true that there are other changes in the Sky Shark line up so we have asked Sky Shark to post a bit of information on the forum so we are all up to speed on these changes.  I expect them to have something up very soon.

Good reason to float this thread  (http://www.gwtwforum.com/index.php?topic=702.0) back up to the top.

Several months back I built up a Quartz with P2X LS. They work well but I don't notice any difference over P200s except for the way they look. P200 is a great rod and it's sad to see it discontinued.

Sky Shark Tubes update.

We have made some changes in our line up of tubes for kites and hobby.
We no longer have P200 and P400 tubes .  We have replaced them with the  new PX series.  The P1X, P2X and P3X have the same ID and OD and the same length of 32.5" The only difference is the weight, they are a    gram heavier then the current  p series. They have a woven diamond pattern and they are 15 to 20% stiffer . You may be asking why are the PX tubes stiffer. The answer is that these tubes have a higher modulus of carbon
At this time we have plenty of P90, P100 and P300 tubes in stock.
In regard to the newer P100 black finish tubes that were used in the E3 Prism kites, as Mark Reed stated, the old P200's and the new black P100's were very close in weight and stiffness.  Mark really did explain it perfectly on the prism forum.
Other new tubes coming soon.
We will be coming out soon with a new 42" straight tube that will have the same internal diameter as our Nitro tubes.  We will also be producing a new tapered nitro tube at 42".
We hope this update answers some questions that have arisen but if you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us.   We appreciate your continued support and use of Sky Shark Tubes.

So very slightly thicker wall + higher mod carbon.
Nice.

Is the woven fabric rolled on at an angle?
(You mention a diamond pattern)

The large diameter 42" straight and tapered sound interesting as well. Particularly for SLK's and gliders.

Where this extra stiff material would be of a real benefit is in the UL/SUL rods. 2 PT P90 etc. Also the other tapered rods could benefit by being stiffer @ the smaller ends.
