It was a pretty good show. Alright, Jerry Lee sucked as did Crosby, Stills & Nash. But the rest of the show was good. Jeff Beck rocked and Patti Smith was hot.  :o

Denny,
Jerry Lee may have done many things in his time... 8)  But sucking wasn't one of them in my book... 8)  Hell as old as he is he is damned lucky he can even still find his way to his piano, let alone play the thing... :D

So ... I guess I shoulda used The Dave Clark Five as an example ... at least I would have gotten a rise out of the Godfather.

I don't know about that... I'm still upset about Rush!

Geddy Lee is and was one of the best bass players in a rock band. I didn't like his voice, but that guy could play.

Now the DC5, that's sacred ground big guy. At least they had Tom Hanks give their induction speech.  :)

Nothing says Rock and Roll like Tom Hanks.
Oh yeah ... that drummer for Rush ... understand he's pretty good too.

What?
Rush isn't in?
That's just crazy talk.
Rush - The Spirit Of Radio ( Grace Under Pressure ) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5QylVq8enyk&feature=related#normal)
With songs like this?
Decade after decade?

Songs like that are exactly why Rush is not in the hall of fame yet.

The power of Rush is in their fan base.

The establishment music industry never gave them anything they weren't forced to give them. They have always been uncomfortable with these guys.

This will be the same.

Eventually, they will cave to the pressure that Rush has been able to bring to bear through the sheer number of people who count themselves as part of that army.

As it was in the beginning, so it shall be at the end.

Not that it matters.

Rush is bigger than the hall of fame.

 :D

The Spirit Of Radio is Rush giving the business to The Business.

Here's some real Rush:

Rush should have been in a long time ago as should Deep Purple and Cheap Trick.

Rush might not get inducted any time soon, but the Dave Clark Five was inducted last year.  ;)

Exactly ... I meant that I could have used them in my example instead of Gene Vincent.  There are a number of inductees that make the whole "Hall of Fame" designation dubious.

It should warm your heart to hear that ABBA has been nominated for induction next year.  ::)

I hope "dubious" means well-deserved.

Or else I'd have to come up there and open a big can of Woopass™ on that skinny carcass of yours.  8)

I guess Rock and Roll is in the ear of the beholder.
One man's Rock and Roll is another man's 1910 Fruitgum Company.

The Dave Clark Five - Bits & Pieces - Top Of The Pops (1964) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XoRLIJJSG4o#normal)

whoa whoa whoa. I hate to come between the two of you and the "debate" at hand, but seriously, the DC5 were NOT bubblegum! Kinda like saying the Beach Boys were just another Boy Band.

waiting for someone to say they were.... :-\

a more fair representation

~~sigh~~

I knew it was a bad example, just goes to show, first thing that pops in your head isn't always the best.

ok......ummm.......like sayin the Yardbirds were just another boy band. Ok, I know I'm stretchin it....

Yardbirds???
You are dangerously close to the ban list.

Steve, whatever yer smokin, you better have brought enough for everybody. Only the three greatest rock guitarist's came outta that band, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Paige, and Eric Clapton. Nuff said.

Even mentioning Yardbirds and boy bands in the same sentence is reason for banning even if you meant to be ironic.

Great guitarists, yes they had some but their everlasting claim to fame is the band that they eventually went on to become.  The true gods of rock and roll ... the band next to which all others pale in comparison.
