Title: Opinions Needed!
Post by: adx1592 on December 15, 2009, 10:23 AM
Ok, so, over winter, I start to get some kites that I've been looking at for awhile. On my life now is the Focus Reflection and the Hydra. Saving up starts dec 26th. =]

I've set up some sail designs from these and I would like some opinions please!
I've labeled my favorites, but it doesn't hurt to get some opinions.

I like either of the grey models - get a Std and a UL!

I didn't know there was a UL Hydra!  ???
Well, that'll come after those, if I like the standard a lot.
I have kites that will trick, but not really TRICK, so I'm hoping to use the Hydra for that.
I'm also getting into indoors a lot so the Echo and the Reflection should do nicely with the Skyburner Indoor/SUL's I have.

'trying to get some kites I want this year, not so much the kites that I "need" for certain things. (Ballet, Precision).
 :D

Thanks for your opinions guys!

Fluorescent Orange on a Hydra is always a good idea :)

Also, since you're on a Mac, try taking screenshots with COMMAND-SHIFT-4, then draw a box around the thing you'd like to screenshot.  It'll look quite a bit better than just taking a picture of the screen with a digital camera.

Hi Devin, I was wondering why the Jinx seems to get passed over in favor of the Hydra. I did'nt see a Hydra UL on their site. With the Jinx UL wingspan at 92" and 39" high it would seem to be a better choice for most of us who have to contend with lighter winds.
When I look over the kites by Focus I always pick the Jinx UL as my first choice. Do you think it's the name (jinx) because I think it even looks better than the Hydra (subjective I know)
Has anyone here tried both of these? I'd like to get one of these. I've not heard a lot, but what I have heard is all good.

I've tried (and reviewed (http://www.kiteclique.com/tag/jared)) both.  I own a Hydra and I have a Jinx on order.  It comes down to flying style and preference.  The Jinx is a full sized competition kite, more suited to precision but still capable of doing tricks.  The Hydra is a smaller wing (85% the size of the Jinx, IIRC) and more suited towards trick or freestyle flying, but still capable of doing precision.

An ideal kitebag would contain both :)

I don't know why, but I think they got the names backwards.

"Jinx just seems smaller than "Hydra".
