Title: Porsche stunt kite! bargain???
Post by: kitesyoyos on January 11, 2010, 05:31 PM
I'm not sure if you have seen this on ebay......most expensive dual line kite ever?
(Note: I'm NOT the seller.)

Link: dammit, I knew there was something I should have done.  ;)

Here is his/her listing information.
I love the disclaimer: DO NOT attempt use from a Porsche cabrio or targa while in motion.

"The item offered here for sale is extremely rare and initially sold in very limited low production only in Europe.

The Porsche Design hi-tech Carbon Kite has a wing span of almost 7' (feet) , left and right controls and is simply amazing when you have it up there. This mass structure and it's strength is nearly weightless. The construction is most impressive to carefully examine.

This Porsche kite has never seen any flight time and therefore listed  "AS NEW" .

This Porsche Kite was used in an upscale garage for esthetics purposes only. Actually, the exotic car enthusiasts who have seen it were impressed to say the least and no one has ever said they have seen one before or knew there was such a thing as an OFFICIAL PORSCHE KITE .

I personally have a 2nd identical kite which i have had up there a number of times and can tell you it's very presice and you should keep it low at first while you get use to it. . . . quite amazing to watch too!  Great family excitement !!   many purposes.

Please keep in mind this product was not cheep (Not made in Asia) when it shortly was avaliable to those who knew and nor is it currently.

There is a legal disclaimer to keep it from lightning, power lines and not to attempt use from a Porsche cabrio or targa while in motion (lol).

A perfect gift for that Special Lawyer, somebody , " Go fly a kite " literally.

Thank-you for looking.

looks totally old school. weird.

Comes complete with an upper spreader puncture wound...

Nice design overall. I'd buy it for $50.

Why don't we all take a really old school poorly made kite, print Ferrari or Lamborgini on it, create a crappy label that says the same, grab some plastic reels (WTF ??? ??? ???) then wack it on e-bay for $1200 so some poor un-initiated lad or lass wastes 3 years pocket money buying it.
What a joke, the word SCAM comes to mind....... as for the wording what a DH :( very very   :(

No it was a real kite, pretty sure I recall an advertisement or article on it but can't say when or where right now, maybe I'll do a little research. $1320 is way out of line though, it was just a Porsche Design graphics on a then current model kite. If you Google Porsche Design you'll find they have done designs from Yacht's to Sweat Bands.

He's had this kite up at an even higher price before Christmas, if you can imagine. By the construction details, it seems to me a little like an HQ designed/mfg kite. I wonder if the guy has any idea just how many really top notch kites ( the Porsche of kites, if you will :D) a person could buy with $1200.  Oh the "A" bag I could have with that kind of budget.

If that is for real...I will give you both my Foxy mamma UL my old reliable HQ Shadow...for free..that is you have to buy the Gig Harbor Purdy bridge from me and I will also throw in my low tide sandy beach at no extra charge. Perhaps just to seal the deal...*I will throw in a free afternoon with one of the prettiest lady felons who resides at the  Purdy Women's correctional facility just down the beach a short distance and that also includes my old Peter B's tattered old Vanishing Point kite with the BAD BOY logo...as a straight across trade for that Peter B "KNOCK OFF LOOK ALIKE Porche' KITE :-* :D :o

Looks like it might be one of those "I just gotta have it kites"

Unflown and with an upper spreader sail puncture?  Is that right?  I couldn't see that...........but it looks like I'd better act fast before the 'buy it now' gets it off the market.......  8)

it seems to me a little like an HQ designed/mfg kite
But it is, however, a Logo Kites X-Act. German, mid-late 90's, flown by notable team Garuda - none of which makes it worth the advertised price.

Mike.

This is us at "mellow". Just wait until someone tries to boost the price of a r@re Prism I2K.... again !!

The seller here is trying to pass off something very mundane as incredibly desirable. They deserve scorn but they are on eBay so they are amongst like minded folk. The only person that might conceivably fall for this ploy is someone who saw episode 5 in series 6 of Friends and didn't see what the fuss was all about.*

Hummm?
I still have this little  "Wind Toys" Cheeta from the early daze-days (mid 80's?)...that taught sooooooooo many family members, friends and co-workers at Boeing.... how to fly sport kites.
Perhaps I should put it up on E-Bay :-\ :-\....(It still looks great for such horrific treatment it had to endure?  :-\
(This little kite was made especially for Kathy Goodwind as a demo kite by Darlene and Fred Fredricks of Sunny So. Calif.) and later sold to me as a used kite for training newbee's how to fly kite.

After seeing that price for the Porche'....what price should this little $25.00 demo kite that I bought waaaaay back when...should go for on E BAY ???
Does $399.99 seem to steep?

It is a collector item, you know??? :-X :-*

They did but you'll need more than Google Fu to see it. You'll need to unleash the mighty power of the Wayback Machine to even find it and even they don't seem to have thought the images worth keeping.

It looks like it was the same company  ;)

well i can tell you its nowhere near worth 1200 bucks.. espically with the old style yo yo handles.. havent seen a full dual line setup like that in years.. and most of the ones i did see were beginner packages.. no beginner kites should be $1200 thats for sure.. take the porsche logo off of it and then what  do you have??

I think it was about 1996/7 that I had to travel to Germany & my friend asked me to collect some parts for his 911 it was from the main dealer in Stuttgart,i remember they had in the showroom a theme with ,Skateboard, mountain bike, surf board etc, they also had a 2 liner & as I remember a Flexifoil not sure of the size but noticed it was about 5 times the price when i made a remark to that effect the response  It`s made solely for us. After collecting the parts on the way out I had a close look.It wasn`t FLEXIFOIL it had been made by the company in Holland that had infringement problems with Peter Lynn All the gear they had on show if I remember  was between 3/5times more than the pukka article

I thought about emailing the seller to see if he had checked on the current market conditions and pricing and then thought that it would just come off as being rude. He's obviously not a kite flyer and is completely out of touch with the kite world. He might know cars but not kites. There's an expression about a silk purse and a sow's ear that comes to mind. Caveat Emptor.

I care enough to check it out on Google and IMDB (and I'm sure I've watched it once or twice over the years), but I still can't see what the fuss was all about. The One with Joey's Porsche (1999) at http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0583530/plotsummary (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0583530/plotsummary)?

It does involve a Porche, and Porche-logo stuff.

OK, I get it: this is about the value of Porche-logo stuff. I was trying to find out why it was a crucial Friends episode. . . (Time for some coffee, Norm!)

if i rememeber correctly, and because i've seen it on promos for local wb station recently. The "porsche" is really a bunch of boxes in the shape of a car that has a car cover on it. Joey says "just put her away, she's sleepin" and then the next shot is one of a guy chasing a football that lands in the "porsche".
so possibly because it says porsche on the kite it gives it mythical powers? :D

He's obviously not a kite flyer and is completely out of touch with the kite world. He might know cars but not kites.

Which is actually the key point, here.  It's not really an auction for kite fliers.  It's an auction for Porsche-bilia (Porsche-phenalia?) collectors.  The kind of people who'd pay $800 for a bit of silver painted wood with a Porsche crest on it:

Or $2500 for a pic-i-nic basket with Porsche on the handle:

Which is neither good nor bad.  It just is.  It's meant to appeal to a different market.

And frankly, I don't see it as that big of a deal - anyone who'd be willing to fork over that much money for a kite, as a kite, is either serious enough into the hobby to know what the kit in question is (and more importantly, isn't... and thus, would never buy it), or has so much money that it just isn't a concern for them (in which case, who cares?).  It's not like someone was *going* to buy Blue Moon's latest, but went for this instead.  Or saw someone flying at their local park and decided to drop $1300 on a kite, to have a go at it too.  Heck, most people starting out are shocked that a kite might cost 1/10th that amount.

Post by: mikenchico on January 13, 2010, 01:33 PM
Imagine if the kite itself had been designed by Porsche, it probably would've been a tail heavy roll-up monster and we would've been calling that flying "German Style" 10 years before the French discovered it  :D

I'm thinking it will be on eBay longer then Charly's Warrior. After all you do NEED a Porsche picnic basket in your Porsche and you can never have too many shiny trinkets. But if you have to point out that little itty bitty tag to get a puff up I think it loses something.

Second attempt:.... can be found by those who wish to find it.

Like it says here (http://www.gwtwforum.com/index.php?topic=29.0); house rules prohibit links to eBay. Yes, I forget too sometimes.

Moddin' Zippy8

Review in DraMa 8/97.

Freestyle Kite, made by Logokites, based on X-Act, slightly smaller, span 182cm, height 98cm, max. price DM400 ($275), frame Avia 196.
Distributed by Porsche only.
Review sounds pretty bad, was obviously a collectors item even in 1997 ...

I tried to find it to remind myself how deluded people can be but I couldn't find it. Amazing, isn't it?

I was amused by Charly's Prophecy listing. The Prophecy is the most sophisticated kite to date. It's only $249 with only a few repaired tears. I also saw some nice looking quads that looked like Rev knock-offs. It's a sad, sad world.  :(

there was a posting on line about a guy who purchased one of those stoopid itmes that some seller listed at ~20,000,000 and ebay refused it.......and canceled the whole thing.....saying that they were not able to support the sale....
