Title: Postage price increase from US
Post by: portley777 on April 04, 2009, 10:10 PM
Hi, I've just noticed a pretty marked increase in postage prices for items (including kites) from the US to Australia in US dollars- on Ebay and other vendors. Is there a reason for this? Some kind of extra tax to leach from the OS buyer?

Cheers,
Mike

it may be a response to a reduced income from junk mail advertising as companies try to cut back expenses, but that's just a guess.

our postal service is heavily subsidized by advertising.

Try 1 cent for a postcard (hence "penny postcard"), 2 cents for second class, 3 cents for first class. I can clearly remember these prices, so it can't have been too long ago!   :o

In answer to the original question the postage rates last increased in May of 2008 and are scheduled to increase again in May 2009.  There are no taxes levied by the US on kites shipping internationally.

Larry ... you have a pretty good memory.  The cost of mailing a postcard went from 1 to 2 cents back in 1952.
