Title: John Welden
Post by: Jannie on April 06, 2009, 04:31 PM
I just got back from the hospital visiting John, he had his surgery, at least the first one on friday and considering what they did, he's doing incredibly well. He may not need the second surgery at all, waiting to find out.

I am reminded about the medical miracles that can happen, when I was his age, they probably wouldn't have even been able to accomplish what they have done with him.

His wife is standing vigil, being the monitor for everything going on, one incredible woman.

We'd had dinner the week before the surgery, had the best time and the food was so good. Making plans to fly kites this summer - can't wait.  :D

Jannie,

Thanks for that, it sounds like he's got a good team of professionals, friends and family around him, and thats a real good start.

Pass on my best wishes to John (and his wife), never a good place to find yourself, but it's great to hear such positive feedback on his first round of 'the recovery process'.

And you're right Jannie, this science stuff is pretty dang cool, hard not to be amazed on a daily basis.

From my understanding he's got a pretty interesting head on his shoulders, it'd be a shame not to have it working on 'cool' stuff as soon as possible, so tell him to hurry up and get well  ;)

Regards,

Shannon

I was wondering about John the other day and how he was.  Glad you posted the update on his condition.  I met John at the 2003 WSIKF; however I doubt that he remembers me.  He impressed me with his flying skills and put on an unforgetable show.

Tell John I pray for his recovery

If Fred Astaire was a kiter, he'd be John Welden.

John and I compared scars once. He had more scars above his shoulders than I did on my whole body.

That lad has paid his dues. Let us all pray for his recovery.

Woot, woot, I'm on my way to the fancy store to buy myself a couple bottles of designer beet to toast John, he had his colon removed last friday, he showed me the incision, they cut him from waaaay down there to waaaay up here and he was supposed to stay in the hospital until sometime between tomorrow and saturday.

Well he's on his way home right now with the additional knowledge that the biopsy came back from the tests on his liver which was supposed to be removed after he healed from the colon surgery and they found NO CANCER, therefore no more surgerty, this is fantastic, we have a date to go flying kites this summer, I got it right from hisself - WOOT!

I am soooo sorry, I misunderstood an email, John is still in the hospital, I just came from there and we walked the halls together, it's tough but he's got great support and a wonderful attitude. I'm sure continued prayers and blessings are accepted.

Thanks all for the kind words. Lucky to have  made so many good friends from the kite world.

Doing pretty well here and hope to go home soon.  The bowel and other systems take a while to wake up after such a surgery. Once things come back on line, I'll get to go.  It happens when it happens. Like Jan said, I won't need another surgery on my damn liver! Would have been a complex and dangerous surgery.  Now I've just got to get back on my feet from this go around and I shouldn't have to come back here for a good long time.

Can't wait to see the real world again. Looking forward to seeing my dogs. Amazing how much the little guys can cheer you up. Wish they could come to the hospital.

Like Jan said, going to fly kites this summer.  Hope to see many of you guys out on the field so we can bs and toss some kites around , just like old times. Being here helps one to appreciate how much fun there is to be had and how many great people there are to share the time with.

See you soon,
JW

Just have your wife slap some "therapy dog" badges on them.  Problem solved  ;)  I know what you mean though - dogs can be pretty good medicine.

Glad to hear you've come through this with a much better result than you were expecting.  Now get the old plumbing going, and get the hell out of there  :D

John,
I haven't been to kite hill in a long time, but I can't think of any better reason to go there then to see an old friend again.

Take Care

Hi all,

Just made it home from the hospital! Feels very good to be out of there.

I'm thinking I'll be doing a lot better in only a couple weeks from now after I get some strength back and figure my diet out.

JW,

You'll be up and about in no time!

By all means listen to the experts for now, but afterward, stick with unprocessed food as much as you can and you'll be fine.
After all, who doesn't like the sound of antioxidants taking out free radicals that run tear a$$ing around your system  ;)  'nature knows best'....

Remember 'it's a jungle in there'!

Yes, I'm going very slowly, especially with the diet.  I don't want to risk ending up in the ER.  I'm eating tinny amounts at a time and seeing what happens.  Luckily, this chicken soup my bro made me seems to be fine with the system.

Thanks,
jw

Dang John!
Sounds like you've been put through the ringer...   ...again.
I don't know what I do without my colon.
Anyway.
I am glad to hear that you are going to be all right.

It would be nice to see you again, and all of my Kite Hill friends.
Those were good times.

Would be fun to see you again.  I'll try to organize something for this summer.  Doesn't have to be a big deal.

Good to hear John.

Grandpa K lived a more then full life with few restrictions after a similar surgery. Once things balance out he didn't seem to have any diet restrictions or he ingnored them (like he would've) without many problems. You'll be running around and jumping and climbing trees in no time, after all he was in his 70's and doing it.
