Title: Good Friends Are Better Than Bad Weather
Post by: chilese on December 29, 2010, 12:24 AM
Before 2005, I lived in the Bay Area. There were a lot of really, really good fliers and there was, and still is, Shoreline Kite Park. That is Kite Park, with its own sign at the parking entrance. There was just one outhouse, no drinking fountain or shade and lots of gopher holes.

And fliers would get together whenever they could: after work, on weekends, when they had a "sick day".

Cecil, John, Allen, Vince, Uly, Wayne, Miguel, Brian, Brian. Sometimes, Steve and Chris would come down from Chico. And sometimes, David Barnby would come in from across the pond.

When David came to town, weather didn't matter. He would show up in a suit and tie and fly with us for hours. We would laugh and spend an hour looking for a standoff if someone needed some extra eyes. But mostly we would fly. David still shows up at Shoreline and I even made it back for one day this year to teach a class to 30 newbies with the help of those same friends.

I was going through some older photos and found this one. It brought back some very good memories.

there is a chance might have to drop into ces in a couple of weeks - will target the friday........

the shoreline wet parking lot is probably that wet today if what i read about california weather is anything to go by this week. like here in portugal the 2010 water delivery is getting delivered in the last few days of the year  :)

i get to fly at shoreline every few weeks - normally with vince and crew. the level of quad flying there is humbling but it has motivated me back to a speed series fev on 30foot lines with 20 inch handles again. mad bliss

big brother - you have so many kite flying buds, is nice you used a pic with me in it

Bambi and I have tickets to CES. Of course, it's enormous so we'd probably never find each other without a pre-determined meet.

David, I do have many kite buddies, but only 1 kite little brother. :-*

Cool story, John
But before 2005 (2003), David was here too and loved champagne and Saclay :).

only in france! thanks jp - shoreline is great but a kite flier would probably get thrown into jail for setting up a table and sharing champagne on the field. the hospitality of the saclay and plaisir fliers always unbelievable
