ZeroAir sticks, this exciting news. How about some specs? Pics? What's the I.D.?

Can Skyshark give any assurances about the longer-term availability of the Zero Air tubes?  They're an exciting prospect, for sure, but it would be a shame to repeat the PXX here-today-gone-tomorrow grief.

Nice flying Devin!  At 7 grams, the Zero Airs are a nice addition to the 2PT and will be one of the lightest tubes out there. Can't wait to test them  ;D

Hey guys,
thank you very much for all the comments!
The Zero Air tubes will be around for awhile, but I can't speak for Jon there. I'll email him and tell him to post on this thread for some detailed information soon :) .
The SUL flies exactly like the standard and UL. Tracks well, will trick well for its weight, too. A taz machine MONSTER. 2 Pops are even EASIER then on the UL. Very floaty kite, which is what Jon (I think) was really going for.

The tubes though, are strong! We've flown the kite in up to 10 mph, without changing the bridle and angle of attk, and they're holding up well- even through tipstabs, commetes, etc.

Some tubes have been sent to people for more testing. I know Steve Tapp has some, and Ken has some.

More info to come, hopefully from the master of tubes himself! Will email him now!

That is nice flying and an interesting looking kite.

Have you flown the Jon T designed Nighthawk ? There is a compelling design, a shame they need did more with it. I think it'd be great with Icarex sail and better graphics. I can fly mine as almost SUL - by removing the upper spreader and pulling the nose way forward. I can imagine an SUL version with no upper spreader, lighter fabric and bridle ...

The rumor is true.  We have a new tube called the Zero Air.  It is a wound carbon tapered tube.  It is made on the same mandrell as the 2pt.
We are using a new material that allows us to get the weight down to 7 grams or less.  The ZeroAir is a softer feeling tube that offers a lot of durability for it's weight.
 Here are the specs:
Length    32.5"  /82.6 cm
weight     6.8 - 7 grams
o.d. large end   .275"
i.d. large end    .242"
o.d. small end   .204
i.d. small end    .174"
use .240  or 6 mm tube for ferrule

So far the testing has been done on the Ocius SUL.  We will be sending out Zero Air tubes to a few other Manufacturers to test.
Devin has been a huge asset in getting all the testing done and flying the new Ocius SUL.  We are so lucky to have him here.
We are hoping that the Zero AIr will allow people to design and build some amazing new kites.
Happy New Year and Thanks to everyone supporting Sky Shark Tubes.
Jon and Marieanne

I forgot you shot video of those "Slides" he was doing across the ground.  Wish we had video of you doing the same with a twist....Totally sic...  :P   Watching those wing tips just dragging.  No doubt this whole "Ocius" Kites Series is a winner from novice to Devin... anyone can fly it.  Did my first half axel with my Ocius... I still consider myself a novice.  Not many tricks but I land nicely...  My whole summer of flying was based on this kite series...

Adding the SUL only makes me long for warm summer days about 8:40pm wind almost gone and at least another hour or so of light... Looking at the sun as it passes the beach front at Metro Beach Michigan... That moment when my SUL fills it's sail with the glow of the evening sun...

so does the ocius sul out do the prodancer?

Post by: adx1592 on January 05, 2011, 05:41 PM
I wouldn't exactly say it 'out does it,' because they're different in their own respects.

The Ocius is a smaller, very light trick oriented kind of kite. The PDSUL is a full size kite, a tracking monster, etc. Good for competition.

They're both brilliant designs though. Can't go wrong for either for a zero wind kite.

Tricks, yes.

Flying in very little wind without moving your feet, no.

It looks like they weigh about the same, but the Ocius is much smaller.

I can't do a half axel with a Pro Dancer  :'(and was able to one with the Ocius sul. ;D.

I am in no way a good pilot yet, but I have watched Devin fly both.  The Pro Dancer does put limits on him.  But as he said the tracking and flow of the kite is really nice.  In my short video i didn't get to fly as good as I wanted. The person holding my camera was just walking by.  So I tried to hurry.  However.  the Pro Dancer does a beautiful slide...

But only a number of tricks.  Which does not mean abandon any idea of getting one.  It is a beautiful kite to fly.  The Ocius will give you more range and tricks. ???

I watched Devin and Jon actually drag that wing tip on the snow, from side to side across the window.

The Ocius SUL does look like it has plenty of drive in SUL winds and has quite a few tricks in the bag but I didn't see it come back to a Fade from a 1/2 lazy. While watching it rotate on it's back it looks like pulling through to Fade could be tough with this kite. It looks like if it will come back, it would have to be done very carefully. Will it make that move easily? Otherwise all the JL fans (and others) could be disappointed with that aspect of it.

Has cost been established for the Ocius SUL?  I see the standard and UL listed but not the SUL.

With the different tubes I cannot assume that the price is the typical $20 more.

I think this is gonna be my next kite.  I likey!

I (THINK) it's about 20 or 30 bucks more.  :) Totally worth it.

Dolphinboy, the kite will do JL's and all that with the right touch. Takes a bit to get used to, because it is after all a kite with a different feel (trick wise) because of the super light tubes. Not a bad thing, just different. A new experience.

That's what I was thinking as I watched but I never saw you pull the 1/2 Lazy back all the way to a Fade so I thought I'd question it. You were close a couple of times but kind of bailed and took off.

So a slow pull & then lots of slack to get it?

Does the SUL use a tail weight?

Post by: adx1592 on January 29, 2011, 06:49 PM
I actually use a really fast, sharp and short pull. More of an extreme pop I suppose. I like the kite to transition faster onto its back in a JL, so thats just a personal preference. You can see one in joes video (vertigo2u).
No tail weight in the SUL.  :)

Send me a note with your phone number..miss ya and can not wait to fly.   Snowed today and sort of wet and warm snow.  Good packin'... But lousy to try and fly.  I want to fly down at Metro soon.  This week.   ;D ...  Those photos of john's are perfect to work with...  I couldn't get Schiziodkites to run fast like it's suppose to.  It skipped over half the photos.  I worked for hours trying... Another day another dollar.  ::)

$280 is the cost.

Bought one today!  I look forward to making it compete with the 4D, Quantum Pro SUL and (possibly) Zephyr for air time!

Yippie!

I received two ZERO tubes today.   I bought them in anticipation of flying and eventually breaking a spar on the Ocius SUL.  I am not easy on kites...

WOW are these things light and thin!  I could barely tell that I was holding them.

I look forward to getting the Ocius SUL and try these spars out!

After reading the comments posted and seeing that it matches the typical wind conditions we fly in (0 to 8mph for the most part), I've gone ahead and ordered a custom Ocius SUL with the wing tip panels ;)
