defrag your drive is an easy method but not 100% by far. there are a lot of freeware programs to do a triple write or more when deleting, dunno what to do after you've deleted though

if your that concerned buy a new drive they are cheap, backup your current drive ans swap and reload then break open that old drive, pull the disks and hammer them for awhile  :D

If this is a PC that is behind a network firewall you can still find out where you've visited via firewall tracking.  If you are just trying to clean up a mess after a trojan program, spyware, or for other users, ccleaner, windows washer, or something similar works just fine.

Are you talking about securely erasing files so that they cannot be recovered from your system, even with recovery software, or just covering internet tracks in your history and cache?

For the former, use a secure eraser utility (as mentioned) that will overwrite the file with random data several times. For the latter, use a stealth browsing mode...for example, with the Google Chrome browser, you can open an "Incognito" window that stores no history on your browsing session.

The program linked above by vraun says it will erase previously deleted files, so there you go. It also states it will delete the index.dat files on reboot, those are in use by Windows so they can't be deleted except by booting directly into a DOS or Linux enviroment or by having a program like that that will temporarily setup your boot files to do the delete before Windows begins loading. The ones in your Temp Internet Files hold a history and are not cleared by emptying your cache, chances are good you can't even see the files.

Now deleting the records of where you went and what you did that are stored on all the 1000's of computers the packets you sent & recieved went through on thier journeys around the globe is a "Little" more difficult  ::)
