Title: Talon UL
Post by: DWayne on April 22, 2009, 02:18 PM
Just curious how many others are flying these?

What are your thoughts?
I've only got a little over 12 hours on mine so far and I'm totally stoked with it.

In general, you will find that a person's "stokosity" with a kite is inversely proportional to how long s/he has been flying it.

1 hour = This is better than sex
10 hours = This is better than any of my other kites
100 hours = This is better than your kite
1000 hours = This is better than mowing the lawn

The Talon is a beautiful kite. Haven't flown one, but they all seem to look good.  :)

Denny, As soon as Business picks up a little more I will Probably order one, I liked your standard, very smooth, like to see how it flies on shorter lines(http://bestsmileys.com/wink/1.gif)
O-No I have been playing with the Colorizer :P

I've got UL #1  8)

I've got nothing but praise for it - will be flying it later this evening (flew it yesterday too)

what kind of wind does the ul fly in and how does it stack up against other uls and/or sul?
I found messing with any colorizer is a black hole of time :D
I think there is also something to be said for what they look like in the sunlight as well. All the pics of the talons i have seen have been pretty. Wonder if there is a "i wont make that color combo cuz it will be ugly" clause

No such clause exists (I can think of at least two kites that are a testament to that!  :D).

Denny's spot-on with the 75ft lines thing. I fly on 100's and one day flew someone elses Talon UL on 80ft lines and for a while thought his kite was better, but it was just the lines.

Not a UL and vent belonging to the same person by any chance. :D

No. You guys need to redefine your definition of 'Ugly'.**
Both different people, different continents, same nice kite :)

Mark

**I NEVER use flo.pink....that helps!

I think the yellow and red could have been a Trident UL.

Are you using 50# or 90# lines at 75 feet?

Mark E Mark,

If you have something to say, say it completely and directly.

Trident UL (red, yellow, black, fl green eyes):
It's supposed to be a 60s style superhero, but all the kids at the park call it the Spider-Man kite.

I wish I was as capable as the kite.   ::)

It always gets looks from adults and kids. Perhaps the kite snob police can be called in on this one JoE.  ;D

Mark E Mark,

Yes, it was your kite that I thought the earlier poster was thinking off. I wasn't absolutely sure though, and couldn't find a pic, so refrained from mentioning it directly. However, please be assured, I have no problem with saying it 'completely and directly'. To be honest, I don't think the colour scheme is that bad (though I didn't like it at the time) and probably looks rather good in bright sunlight in a blue sky (neither of which I see a great deal of). A very good friend of mine owns both a Talon UL and vented in much more questionable colour schemes.

P.S. I'm quite happy to be considered a 'kite snob' - I probably am.

Ugly is in the eye of the beholder.
I mean does anyone really think their Talon is ugly?

That is such a true statement, I caught the same flack when I Posted my WM with those colors, But you know the kids sure do love it! Those Kids are the future of the sport. When I'm flying my Red, Black & White, No Kids, With this one I have all kinds wanting to check it out.

ohhh man ... I thought when Steve got rid of all the old content we got rid of all those pics of the ugly WidowMakers  ::)

Sorry John had to say it, ya' know I just joking, I'm the proud owner of two of the beasts myself and I never felt that one looked bad, now the other John's Trident ...

That's some weird gradation... did you scan inkjet printouts of the colorizer pages?

I think I like the upper one better :)

Had 2 mph of smooth (a rarity in this valley) wind this evening. I got in a groove with my UL. What fun. This really is an awesome kite. Just before I left I hit 5 Taz Machines in a row.  8)

Taz really is stoopid easy on this kite.

Granted ... I can only pull them off in one direction ... but still ...

If you don't do them in both directions, and close to the center of the window, how are you going to get that Taz Cascade happening?

Sorry for opening an old thread..... But while Iīm waiting for my Talon UL, I have been passing the time reading up on Marks kites, on the forum. And stumpled into this one... And the colour-scheme-debate... Hmm.... "beauty is in the eye of the....", thats true. And then Marks hint "I NEVER use flo. pink..." Made me wonder, perhaps there soon will be three JoE kite colour-schemes, that Mark isīnt too fond of, the third being mine. :D

But, and we touched this on email, Mark, mine doesīnt have flo. pink in it, it is Ruby Red, so maybe it will get the ok-stamp. Anyhoot, canīt wait for it to be made, and to it arrives here at my place. I just know it will be a beauty, for me to cherish for a long time. Mark, the Talon isīnt just a kite, itīs a work of art. Should I ever hang up my flying lines, Iīll keep the Talon, and hang it on my wall.

The longer I've had mine, the better looking they've gotten.
They're so good looking now the rest of my kites have gone into a closet to hide in shame.  :D
Let us know how you like it after you get a chance to fly it.
And do post a picture here.  ;)

Oops.... I really forgot to post pic and oppinion here.... :o

Well, here is my Talon UL :

And how I like it ? Well, this kite cost me a good 3 times more, than my hitherto best kite. And let me tell you, itīs worth every last penny ! Iīm still very much the newbie-kiter, but to me it seems progress is coming a little (a lot, actually) more readily, with the Talon UL on the end of the strings. Since getting it, I have only flown one of my other kites one time. I have actually rolled up the lines, and gone home one day, when the wind picked up, to a little more than I like flying the Talon UL in. I could have put one of the "old" kites up, but, naahhh.... To much wind for Talon UL, might as well goe home. In short, I like my Talon UL. Like it a LOT !
 ;D

I am so enthused with it, that I have serious plans ordering a vented Talon, as soon as my "play-money"-economy allows this. I have a couple of other interesting kite-commitments to fullfill first :-X, but Iīm looking forward to ordering one of Marks kites again.
 :)
