Title: High / gusty wind recommendations
Post by: duncan on November 28, 2011, 09:48 AM
Hi All,
A Newbie here from the UK!
I'm looking for a SLK (or type of SLK) which will be suitable for high winds - perhaps 25mph gusting 35mph
Preferably something available in the UK

Thanks

Duncan

Cellular kites do relatively well...
foils and soft kites do great...
any kite that you can bow more and more helps too....

Too bad Green's of Burnley is not open any more.  They were a great outlet in the UK that had several great cellular foil and box kites that would be great in those types of winds.  Careful of line choice and staking to be sure that they are safe.  As Thief says, soft foils, (Stratoscoops for instance.....) and other parafoils are good.  Make sure that you have plenty of tail material if needed.  Too much winds is not always a bad problem to have, you just have to be careful.

Enjoy

The Pointer kite designed by Leong Chee Wan of Malaysia, and produced by John Trennepohl and Premier Kites flies exceptionally well in high wind, because of it's very flat angle of flight. It flies almost parallel to the ground, thus reducing stress on the frame when flown in strong wind.

Also, I've seen the Premier custom foils like shown below, fly successfully in winds above 30 mph
