I'd rather listen to the wind, the kite, the birds, and such things.

YMMV

I guess I am An iPod victim.  I haven't listened to an album in years.    An albums full of songs can last an artist an entire career now!  :)

On days when the winds is perfect and exciting for some tricks it will be progressive trance by Armin van Buuren
On days with some light winds enough to tricks and no excessive moves to keep the kite in the air, it will be reggae by S.O.J.A
On days with a warn sunset and some gentle sea breeze, it will be the sound of the waves and the kite itself...

Now i started flying revs and only in medium winds, i try to make the kite moves to the Root Reggae sounds with the sun back-lighting it :)

I'm with Wayne. No music, except:

People in the park talking or playing sports
Birds
Kids yelling
Kite and line noise
People coming up and asking questions

It's all good stuff.

Wearing the earbuds says, "Don't bother me." Which is fine if that is your intention.  :)

Hey,

I have a ton of stuff I listen to for practising ballet I generally use film music or classical music that's between 2 and 3 mins.

For general messing around trance or techno is awesome but... I can't wear my earbuds easily cos it takes all the line and wind noise out and I am just not good enough to pull off anything when I can't hear the kite.

My solution is to get one of those practice amps so I can hear both.. either that or a portable boombox thing... not hearing the kite at all does not work for me.
Cheers
John

... Or artists...I really enjoy Instumentals of all types.  I could fly to some of the classics to long haired stuff by Yes and Emerson Lake and Palmer. Oldie instrumentals from the 50's to the 80's.  I mainly enjoy Lite Jazz, Moby, Yanni, Pat Methany, Patrick O'Hearn, Ray Lynch, Vangelis, Jean Michel Jarre and many others.    Lots of great stuff out there to choose from.  I have CD's that I have built, specifically for kite flying.   The Weather Channel can also give you some great ideas.   Enjoy!!

I'm with Danno on the Foo Fighters.  Oddly, I never really listen to them much when I'm not flying, but when I'm out on the field, they've been my 'go-to' lately.

I also like flying to a little-known band called 2 Skinnee J's.  If I had to pick one of their albums, it would be Supermercado.

I'm going to be a bit of a nerd here...

Anything and everything from the Chicago Symphony, the Borealis Wind quintet, or the American Horn Quartet  :)
Anything by Eric Ewazen is a current favorite as well from summer (I don't really get to fly when I'm in school at all).

Not the typical flying music, but still so, so good.

In the early 70's (yes, almost 40 years ago), I was in the small town of Handorf, Germany in a cattle auctioning building (occupancy maybe 500).

The headlining act was Deep Purple.

The opening act was Leo Kottke. He came out with a 12 string, chair and 2 mikes.
While tuning his guitar, he looked up at the audience (who had no idea who he was, nor did I at that time) and said, "Good evening, I'm Joe DiMaggio."

There was no reply from the audience and he nodded his head slowly and said,

"Just what I thought."

So I yelled out, "Go get 'em Leo."

He smiled, looked in my direction and said,

"I see the Army is represented."

Then he just played amazing guitar. No singing.

For me, the concert was over. Deep Purple became much less important and I was a fan of Leo from then on.

My all time guitar hero is Leo Kottke.  Saw him when he opened for Jeff Beck in Honolulu in '75.  guitar heaven that night.

like the wind is, so is my music:
low winds - smoth an flowting : sometimes music played on a "hang"
mid winds - everyting with a midtempo - pianochocolate,.....
high winds - it must be fast an loud, like motörhead,  raige against the machine, chemical brothers or drum and base.

Wow, the Leo K references here impress me.  I got turned on to him while in college and saw him twice in Chicago over the course of those years.

His command of the 12 string simply defies what normal folks can do.  When I first started playing guitar way back when, I can remember thinking if this acoustic sounds this good...then a 12 string played well must sound unbelievable.  Then I tried one and came to the realization that those extra strings don't make it any easier!  Years later I saw Leo play and thought, "SEE!!  I knew it!!"

Thanks for the memories, Steve and all.

If so, guess am there with you.  Great picks.  Like Walter Becker's solo album better than Fagen's - bit darker
