Well now, since we are now 1/2 way to KP 11, I will chime in. I will also mention that my northern neighbor's event in October is the Japan America Kite Festival, and is an excellent one from what I hear from everyone. Regarding Jim Strealy kites, I hope EVERYONE can bring one to fly in a KP Celebration of his life....

Seal Beach is a wonderful event and as always Toom Much Fun will be there to support it.  I love having these events nearby.  Just wish we had one at a beach just down the road in March.  Oh well, maybe one day!!! ;-)

I have not just made our reservations, so Demetri, Marjorie, and I will not be really really looking forward to seeing all of our friends who won't be there!

If there were to be a KP11, we'd be seeing you Friday afternoon, but of course the First Rule of Kite Party is "There is no Kite Party."   ;)

As  I get ready to leave for TI on Thursday and the "west" Coast beaches of Florida, my thoughts are on what I won't be doing in March on some other empty "west" coast beach that no one else goes to in Southern California.

Lynn and I flew at Huntington this afternoon. Wind was a little low, but just fine for suls. We were able to do anything we wanted for nearly two hours.

Supposed to get a little rain in the next few days, but should be very little, and over by the weekend. Wind is predicted to be good during KP.

We plan to go back tomorrow.

Cheers.......

After 9 straight Kite Parties I'm going to miss this one.  :'( :'( :'(

I've got some sort of bug and no way I could travel, let alone spend days on the beach, with the way things are.

I think I need to get a proxy for the auction...

Thank you Dave.  There are several who are unable to attend this year due to illness, like our friends Fran and Dick Wilson from Lower Lake, who will be pleased.  Fran and Dick both should be OK to attend next year.

Have pity on me.  Allen has kindly been my shuttle for my larger 2-line kite bag.  Due to his tragic unexpected absence, I will have only Revs, a Prism E2, and Demetri's 3-D.

That being said, I would gladly go with no kites at all if I could exchange that for Allen being able to attend.  And Demetri is already wondering where he's gonna get his next 2-line lesson.

Feel better, Allen!  We'll miss you -- a LOT!

As to the rest, we'll see y'all Friday afternoon.

cheers,

David

After some rain and changing wind this morning, we had a great afternoon of flying at the Kite Party.

More tomorrow.

Title: Re: KP 11
Post by: kiteking on March 08, 2013, 10:18 PM
Great day,

I arrived at the beach around 6:30am, George's truck was there already, sunny with kite wind,

George, after a quick repair, and Dave were tricking, I had a Griffin up.. more joined us and then we saw a wall of water heading our way.
Everybody stashed their kites, and started talking, in the parking lot....in the rain, but the kites were dry

a few more small showers, and one large downpour, and another small rain, the sun came out with blue sky-- and zero wind.... but 10 minutes later it started back up and everyone was airborne...

In accordance with (old school photos) I got a 2 stack of Griffins (80's / early 90's?), 3 stack Chicago Fire Bee's (90's), 5 stack of "Action Kites" Moon/Star Darts (80's), and a 5 stack of Visions (not old school)

Robert Brasington (Tasmania, AUSTRALIA) launched about 8 stacks of beautiful artwork, and had everyone taking pictures, John should have some great shots to share

Tomorrow should be great,

Thanks Dave!

Mike, I saw a 5 stack flying last night on the web cam. I figured that might be you.

Now it's 7:30am for you guys... where is everybody ? It looks beautiful there ! Can't tell if there's any wind, though.  ;D

Watching an almost empty field on Sunday morning. I'm sorry to see what looks like a weak off shore breeze, but maybe there will be some SULs out to play later. I'm all ready back from my Sunday morning fly, you guys aren't even up yet !  :o

Title: Re: KP 11
Post by: kiteking on March 10, 2013, 09:40 PM
Today better than yesterday, warm, steady wind from the ocean, flew a three stack of Chicage Fire Bee's, and the 7-stack of Nexus  only calm wind was when Ben Lumas (11yrs) preformed the last demo's of the day,

The wind picked up during the mass ascension and finished strong.... full vent REV's   everywhere

Another better that last year event... only 360 days (for me) until KP12

Well, I missed Kite Party. What is the world coming to?

Upside is it looks like my bug has been diagnosed and I'm already feeling much better. Even flew on the beach in Pacific Grove for a few minutes yesterday.  ???

As much as I like Kite Party, the scenery leaves something to be desired. Asilomar Beach is awesome!

Sorry, working Thurs & Fri. Gotta pay for being out sick so much.

The way to get low beach wind is get up early. At many, if not most, NoCal beaches the really good flying is before 11.  What this means for you is getting up at like 5AM.  :D

Something like this: 7:30AM, SUL.  8:30, UL.  11:30, Std.  2PM, Hang On!   ;)
