Title: Is "A Wind of Change" still in business?
Post by: Ken Bour on June 20, 2012, 01:55 PM
I wasn't sure where to register this post, but does anyone happen to know whether "A Wind of Change" is still actively in business?

Earlier this month, I called AWoC's number circa 2-3 PM Nevada local time. No one answered (not unreasonable) so I left a voice message (including my name and phone number) expressing interest in ordering a SkyBurner kite. After a couple of days, I gave up waiting for a response and contacted "Kites & Fun Things." Mareianne responded immediately and my custom WidowMaker is now in production.

A couple of days ago, after reading a fairly recent post by Gamelord (27 April: http://www.gwtwforum.com/index.php?topic=7308.15 (http://www.gwtwforum.com/index.php?topic=7308.15)) that AWoC might have a few Talons in stock, I sent an email (customerservice@awindofchange.com) asking what they have available. So far, I have received no response and I never did get any callback on my first voice message.

These two failed attempts to reach AWoC have me wondering if the company is defunct, on summer vacation, or, perhaps, they have more business than they can handle!

Does anyone know the actual status?

Ken

Really strange as Kent is really pro-active and I've never heard but good things about his service. However, I understand your situation. Gotta go with what works. No fault there.

Yes, definitely still in business. Was in the store last week (and the week before that). Plus flying with Kent on Friday night.

Not the normal customer service

Sorry to hear you have not gotten a reply.  :-[

I'm sure Kent will be on with apologies soon, this happened once before when he was out of town or involved with some other aspect of his business and the staff had dropped the ball. I'm sure this doesn't reflect his normal practices, just be aware that most (all) kite shops are pretty small if not one man operations. Kent is an enthusiastic kiter, his business usually reflects that from the couple times I've talked with him.

Plus he just redid his banner on the right and got rid of the duplicate Skyburner's so I'm certain he's active.

In the event someone saw my post before I edited. Mea culpa. I had Kents shop confused with someone elses.

Ken,

I am truly sorry about missing your call earlier in the month and for not getting right back to your e-mail yesterday.  We are indeed still in business but we have been quite busy lately and I did get a little behind on my e-mail.  I did send you a response back on your e-mail before I noticed this message.  We do have Talon's in stock and I will be sure to help you out with whatever you decide.

I can't apologize enough but assure you we take customer service very seriously.  Obviously we have missed the ball on your circumstances but promise we will make it up to you.

I like that.  No excuses, just an apology and a promise to better.  A true show of concern for the customer.  That is a person to do business with.

Problem resolved. Kent sent me an email and, indeed, has some Talons in stock. I hope there is nice-looking UL among the inventory...  :P

Thanks, everyone, for responding with information.  :)

Stuff like this..... sometimes it's better just to PM one of the forum regulars. It's likely they would be familiar with the advertisers and would be able to answer the question posed and ease your mind.

Madhabitz: I did debate with myself about posting something to the Forum. I am new here and looking to make friends, not enemies. I chose my descriptions carefully so as not to be unduly accusatory. Accidents and mistakes do happen.

I was delighted to see that, within minutes of posting, several forum members jumped in to confirm AWoC's status and Kent was shortly among them!

Hopefully, no harm was done and one more benefit of this Forum has been emphasized!

Having said all that, I acknowledge your constructive input and will handle it privately should such a circumstance arise again... :)

Ken

Good to see they're still around and this is resolved. I'm late with my comments, but nevertheless....

I did get a quick response from them via email a couple weeks ago. I've been using their site a lot (I hope the bandwidth's not a problem! ;) ) recently as I look at all the brands and kites out there, and almost bought from them (one of the few who had/has Zephyr's in stock) before changing my mind and going with Steve's bargain. Sorry! But I'll definitely be back in the future, when the budget (and wife) permit. I do need a nice standard trick kite to replace this Quantum for the stronger winds, and they have the lowest price on the Kymera. Tempting.
