Title: Webshots
Post by: mikenchico on May 24, 2009, 09:21 PM
Had a new one happen tonight on Webshots. I inadvertently clicked on a pic here before realizing it was a link to webshots. When I heard the 3 following clicks (I have my sounds set to "click" on 'begin navigation' for IE because I like the feedback confirming I've clicked a link) upon realizing I was going to webshots I clicked the close window "X" and webshots immediately started opening window after window on me. Everytime I clicked another close "X" it would immediately open up a full series of 15 windows across my desktop. It had probably thrown 50 - 100 windows open on me before I could get the task manager up to kill all iexplorer's and stop it.

Anybody else experience this yet?

PLEASE - if your linking a picture to webshots PLEASE, PLEASE in the largest font available could you put == WARNING, LINK TO WEBSHOTS ==    :D

Firefox +AdBlock+ stops most of the annoyances.

Has something changed with Webshots recently?

I havent been to it from Windows for a while. It's always been the AOL of photo sites. :-(

I would suggest to scan your machine for virus/malware, sounds like you may have a trojan that replicates windows till your resources are maxed out

all clean, hasn't happened on any other site. Very strange when it happened, it may have been one of the advertisers if I clicked on one of those on the way to the "close window", I do have my trackpad set pretty sensitive and get some unexpected clicks, but not 100 in a row. At this point I haven't even re-booted, just hibernated and came home, been on 3 kite forums and probably 20-30 other sites over the last 3 hours with no further incedences. I'll shut down and do a full scan when done just to be sure though.

Webshots is still my preferred photo hosting site. Started there and have no plans to change. There are several options out there so to each his own.

I have my popup blockers active, AV and spyware sniffers on. The only time I have experienced that kind of activity was sometime ago when I inadvertantly clicked into a bad site through a link. Never had it happen with webshots.

Granted, I haven't used flickr or others yet (though I have accounts), but I like webshots. I have their premium account to limit the ads, it's a nice interface, can bulk upload, etc.

Hope you get it figured out, Mike.
