Title: Skyburner... Aura?

Well, from all the honest feedback and comments about the Solus line, I've learned a lot from Jon and you guys espically about what people like in a kite, and what makes a kite perform a certain way. Which is why I'm pleased to announce the latest ongoing project between Jon Trennepohl and myself!

Lots of interest here!  Been looking at the ocius to replace my 4d.  Would love to take a test drive on this sometime.  Big ? When will the colorizer be up?  :P

White is good too  ;D

Very nice Devin.

Particularly the balanced stall in the side slides.

Are the Adjustable standoffs just for testing purposes or are they a design "feature"?

Again, very nice.

Hope you decide to make some.

Excellent! Looks like the option many have been waiting for!
 :)

However, I wonder how it would look like in my hands...   :-[
Of course the demo pilot is a "beast" and my flying bears absolutely no resemblance to his flying...  :(

In any case I'd be willing to try... & learn.  :)

So is the Aura a 90% resize of the Ocius SUL with maybe a tweak or 2?

Good luck with your new kite.

I really liked the Solus.

Hey guys,
Thanks for the interest, and comments. If anyone has any more questions, please feel free to ask.

Jim B- The standoffs will be set in that specific location. Those are just some adjustment holes we blew in the trailing edge for some testing

Ara- Thanks for the kind works, but this kite really isn't an 'advanced' model. It'll fly figures easily, do stalls/basic tricks easily. It'll trick in light winds, yes, but it also does power up well and tracks well. Stable flyer.

Chilese- Not even close :) haha. Completely different. That kite is a totally different, slower, bigger bird. The Aura is a completely different design thats geared to do pitch based tricks easier. We had an 'indoor kite' in mind, but the guys at the school behind the parking lot wouldn't let us into the gym even though nobody was in it for the video..

That is the type of kite that matches my skills.

Big and slow would never be words I would use for the Ocius.  :D   I guess it is all relative.  ::)
The Ocuis SUL is a great trick kite, but does not match my flying style or skills. Looking forward to your new design. ;D

Great idea, I find pitch tricks hardest to do on SUL.

Nice!

Looks like a fine replacement in the lineup for the nice, but very old skool, Nik Nak.

Just got back from the Kite Store... I want one  :'( :'( :'( :'(  Hopefully, I can get one next week...  ;) ;)  The kie is lighter than anything I have felt.  If you own a I Nak...then you might have an idea.  When you pick the kite up ..it's a shock how light it is... Ocius Sul is light but not like this.... Bring on the dead air days...

p.s.-Didn't see the little Creep -O attempt any AVFFF's ???   :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D  Do four in a row with the new kite Creep-O ...

K next, time I do a videos I'll do some, JUST for you.   :-*

Wayner, sorry about that I wasn't referring to the Ocius SUL as 'slow.' It's certainly the slowest of the line, and this kite, in the same winds CAN be faster, given the setting you have on the bridle. We'll keep everyone posted!

We just finished getting the yoyo stops in the right place, etc today as well. Next time I'm home (spring break, maybe) I'll try to get some yoyo video for you guys. This kite loves to two-pop.

Hey guys,
Sorry everythings been so out of touch. For those who don't know my background, I go to music school in Chicago and put down the lines when school is in session to focus, so it's hard to communicate and be inconstant development with things when schools around, including the distance between myself and where Jon and Marieanne are in Michigan. There are some graphics that have been placed on a board sofar, and some protos will be made. I'm going to try to send my kite back to Jon so the measurements are ok so when he brings them to KP11 there will at least be SOMETHING but I will not have flown it to confirm. Jon as all the measurements on paper though and I know he'll be super close if not right on the money as he always is with the rest of the skyburner line. The biggest thing that's different between this kite and the Solus is accessibility. I know a lot of flyers are usually pretty black or white on the solus and thats all good, but this one is most certainly going to be able to be for a wider audience of flyers, no question about that. This kite isn't NEARLY as demanding to specificity of inputs, balance, etc. I'm going to go home for spring break and dial them in with Jon but it will be AFTER kite party. Ill keep this updated when all this happens and for those who go, please send me feedback on the kite if you'd like. Good, bad, etc. Anything is useful. Thanks guys and thanks for any interest! I'll try to get some video come spring break as well. Until then... grad school auditions, and 14 concerts before march 12. Off to Cincinnati Conservatory for an audition for Mr. Randy Garder friday night!

Thanks for the update!  Don't give a second thought to keeping us posted... Your school and music demands your attention.  I too have a degree in music and remember that even my family wondered what had become of me at certain points in my senior year.  Just find a few minutes in the madness to get a kite in the air so you can preserve you sanity.

What a lot of people don't know is... You'll be the only Master's Degree in Music employee at the kite store.   In between playing on the streets of Pymouth Mi during Christmas.... :-\ :-\ :-\ you'll be cleaning the kite  shop.  No 401k.. :-X :-XNo vacation :-X :-X :-X,No over-time :-X :-X :-X :-X,No lunch break :-X :-X :-X :-X, one ten minute smoke break  :P :P(unless you don't smoke  8) 8) 8)and you don't so forget that break also :-[).  Besides all that...I could not believe watching you fly that kite...  ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? You do AVFFF's four in a row with a 4 oz kite  Outside and inside... We might consider you back on the circut.   8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

Speaking of Skyburner prototypes... what happened to the 10 footer from last year's Kite Party ? At first, before I read this, that's what I was hoping this post was about. Sorry to digress from the Aura, which also sounds like a kite I'd like to try. But talk of a 10 foot trickable kite really gets my blood pumping.  :-\

I flew it at Christmas time.  It's a monster.  Fun to trick.  Call Jon he'd send it to yu to play with .... Devin made it dance.

AHH Ok, so the audition went pretty well!
Played all of the mozart 2nd horn concerto with no rests (which is good, he didnt have anything to say), then for those who know orchestral music, the 1st horn calls in Beethoven 7, 2nd horn variation 6 in Brahms' Variations on a theme from Haydn, and all of the Mahler 5 Horn Obligato from the scherzo movement. And amongst talking to the teacher I ended up making him laugh so hard he almost cried (which is odd, I wasn't trying to be funny haha) so thats a good thing!. We hadn't seen eachother for a while and I hadn't played for him in a few years so it was nice to catch up.

So I'm going to be back forsure on spring break and am going to tie up loose ends with the aura. Joe, its crunch time. Looks like some simple graphics might come into play (to keep the price down, as cutting a giant piece of 1 color material and get pricy if its not done right) and some more. As always I will personally post videos and pics. If it gets to be too much, I can just send to those who are interested individually. 1 more actual audition and a buttload of concerts and I'm home free for like.. 4 days but hey I'll take it!

I'll keep updating as I know more. The big 2 auditions are out of the way and my backup school is too, and my third choice is on march 2nd so I'll be able to actually read more and post more for a bit.

Rob, the "SXL" is basically something thats kind of on the fence of production from what I understand. I'd send Jon and email as ask, it wouldn't hurt.

Hey Devin,
I thought I saw pictures of you flying it at KP last year, and just figured you were in on the development of it. I have a good time flying the Firestorm, but am always worried about breaking it. A 10 foot kite made to Skyburner's standard of quality would remove that worry, and I would guess 10 years of newer kite technology might not hurt, either. Once more people saw what a blast it is to trick a BIG kite, I think the idea might really take off...
Rob.

Hey Rob,
Trust me you will noottttt break that kite haha. Big honkin' sticks in there. I've tried to break it honestly, and I couldn't. Which is nice (and kind of upsetting in a way) because I can break about 2 or 3 nitros in a week if I'm flying hard usually. One day...  :D

Yeah, Devin, I've heard that you fly it 'like you stole it'...  :D

That's really good news about the durability, and just makes me really want to fly that big wing even more.

Well, I wish you success in your musical pursuits, and hopefully you get back to the important business of kite flying soon !

Which Aura stayed in Vegas.  I was picking the "Spider".   ;D ;D ;D ;D

John brought out his new Aura "spider" to the Friday Night Fly.

A SUL night (Aura, Interspace and Amazing) with no lights :(

Its a smaller SUL that tricks like a good UL. Only got about 10 minutes flying time. So no kind of review. Just enought flying time to know that Devin and Skyburner have a winner.  ;D

Looking foward to adding one to my kite bag when they go into production  8)

Hi, I went to look in Skyburner's web site and I see it still does not appear.
Any idea of when it is going to be commercialized and at what price?
Thanks.
