Title: KP11 ALL Old School Kite Group Shoots
Post by: chilese on January 26, 2013, 10:42 PM
While the food and shirts are important stuff.....

Kites are (is?) a good topic for KP11.

So.....

I'd like to do a couple of old school group shoots.

1 Joel Scholz (no "t") kites (both Sky Delights & GFAK JS versions)
2 Peter Betancourt kites
3 Dean Jordan kites

4 Bring any old school kites you have.
  TOTL
  Fire Darts
  Old Revolutions

What can you people bring? I hear Joel had a 19 foot delta.
I've got 1 Sky Delights, 1 GFAK JS, 1 VP & 1 BadBoy, 2 Dean Jordans

I'm open to other old school shoots. Suggestions?

Lee, do you want to borrow the Vanishing Point?
You can return it to me at KP12.

Dual line??  Or do you mean the SLK Raptor - listed as 20' but closer to 21'  I have a pair in the different color layouts.  Makes for a fun train.

Pretty bulky to bring on the plane . . . . was wondering if you'd chime in on this thread  :) since I know where you got the second one . . . . I'd like to see that train, if you are going to KPXI (and I can make it . . . not sure this year).

Don Tabor (TOTL) and Jerry Sinotte (Avenger, One of Jerry's Kites,) are two VERY instrumental designers from the early 80's. Their designs were the foundation for today's kites (in my opinion). Would love to see some Peregrine's, Spin-Offs, Team Kites, Northshore's etc). Jon Trennepohl and Tim Benson should be in the mix? Or is this just a list of kites you haven't photographed yet, since you did a Benson thing in the past? Just my .02, which is worth much less ;-)

If we're making requests, I think a bunch of Fire Dart-type kites would be cool. Also very important historically and the simple geometric design looks great.  Maybe some Bees to one side.

Below is one of my favorites (a SkyDart, I think)

Bring All Old School Kites

We'll sort it out there.
Maybe sub-groups and then 1 huge shoot.

Revs must be at least 10 years old.
No B-Series or Zens.

This could be huge.  :)

Old kites are all I ever bring  :)

I'll make sure the really old ones come too.

We should have a test of old skool skillz.

How about a Skynasaur Areobat? I never could get that thing to fly...

Or anything pre-whiskers.

I remember hearing people used to challenge each other on the size of the window with a given kite. Things were simpler back then...

Indeed.  ;D  Sounds fun!  I have at least 9-10 that would qualify or have already been mentioned.

So what are we considering the cutoff year for old school?

Allen:  yes!  That's definitely old school, unfortunately I sold all my Skynasaurs awhile back.

Dean Jordan kites? You could have narrowed it down to something other then any kite ever made or thought of.

If you narrowed it down to kites made in the previous century.....I'd still have too many to carry in one trip. :D

Got some PBSKs though.

Gee, John, that's a pretty broad call.  I'm not even sure where to begin.  I have a tiny museum's worth of old kites.  Can you pick a category or two?  (Plus, you want to have something left for when we don't have KP12 next year...)

Bring the kites you think get seen the least if you've too many.

I've got a few gift kites which need to get out and fly. My thanks

to Geezer and skb™ for some truly unusual fliers.  :)

Hmm, time to pull out some old stuff.    :)

Perhaps the Opus 8 that hangs from my ceiling should come out to play. (it's even signed by the Chicago Fire team members from that time).

Ah, the Chicago Fire!  They were my favorite MLS team back in the day!  Thanks for reviving that memory.

I still have a Skynasaur Aerobat. It was my first stunt kite in the 80's.

Just dug out an old Rev I that I got at WSIKF from a pest control guy in Wenatchee WA about 9 years ago.  It may be the first one after the Neos Omega.  It has been flown only about half a dozen times.  I'll bring it.   Perhaps someone can tell me more about it.

I have a DJ "Hugo" in a one off color scheme as noted by Dean. I'm wondering if an early "Diatribe" might show up for the shoot?  ;)
