Title: relaunching a parafoil?
Post by: sethvincent on June 14, 2013, 12:15 PM
I am having So much fun with my snapshot 1.4. BUT, I am still having to do the walk of shame.  There's only one time I got lucky enough after a crash that the kite was lined up where I could relaunch.
According to Prism , "and if you crash itíll reinflate and launch easily without the dreaded walk of shame to set it back up", but have I not found any decent info on how to do it.  Is this just marketing hype or are they really easy to relaunch?
 Any advice?

At 1:20 there is a relaunch.

Perhaps the tail helps.

You do want to get the openings pointed up before

attempting a launch. Hope this helps.

Let the wind re-inflate the kite after crashing; but it doesn't do it instantaneously.  Work with the kite by using the lines to position it to catch the wind.  My kite usually re-launches easier without a tail. That's probably kite dependent.
Good winds ;D

It's really not that difficult. I've never had to walk out to any kite to relaunch it.

Many times I've had to go out and adjust the bridles....

thanks guys . getting the leading edge pointed up is where I'm having the problem.

tscope, are you talking about foils or have you never crashed a framed stun kite without having to walk out and  set it up for a launch again.

I can usually relaunch my foils, I give a quick hard pull on one side or the other to spin the kite, then wiggle it till the nose is up.....wait and back in the air... works 99% of the time... the more wind the easier it is... Same procedure for launching a flexifoil

First, I've never crashed any kite. I've landed them very quickly many times.

Correct, I've never needed to walk out to the kite to relaunch. As mentioned, I've gone out a lot to check the bridles... but never to relaunch.

I think I might not have been being aggressive enough getting it spun around

Think I'll go fly my black rainbow Vapor with a 100 ft tube tail in honor of Mike.

so why don't you like tails mike?
I have to be honest, the reason I took tail off mine was because it looked generic. I've thought of making 25 foot tube for it when I've got some money for nylon.

I think you've thoroughly misunderstood the concept of honouring someone  >:( (not to mention misspelling it).

Mike,
each to their own..... I suppose.

oh ok, so that means I should put TWO tails on my foil.   LOL
Seriously though, I totally understand your point and agree with it.   I used my snapshot with the tail at first because it was on it when I got it, it got tangled in the bridle on the second flight.  So I could definitely see where it would be  a problem on a real stunt kite. I wound up taking it off because I thought the little streamer looked generic.   I think tube tails are really neat to look at (at least in the videos I've seen them in) but I wouldn't try them on a stunter.

I use "honor" to honor Honor Blackman.

You chaps across the pond think it's all about "U".  :)

Although for Diana Rigg, I'd put in the U.

Nice answer...in the context of freestyle flying. I remain unconvinced regarding parafoils.

Freestyle is probably a bad fit, but ballet might be doable.  Sadly not pursued more actively... at least not in the US.
