Ok, sit down, deep breath and repeat after me.....

....." my name is Ara and I am a kite addict.  It's been (insert number) hours since my last flight.........." :D :D

I told you it was addictive!  we've all been there and we're here to help! ;) ;)  You are going to need a bigger kite bag soon!

One can be both a collector and a flier.

All of my kites get flown. Although with a large

number of kites, some may rest for a long time

before coming out to play. Fortunately, they

seem to fly better with age.  :)

Ara, Nice growing kite collection.

You soon will need a second kite bag.

You really need a Vapor and a Prophecy to have a proper collection. Every kite collector nut has at least one of each.

I remember the Fermins (dad & daughter) at the 2002 Nationals, flying Prophecies.

On cue to the music (of course) and in fairly high wind they did opposite sides of the

window 540s. This was when pairs and teams basically flew formations.

All of us gasped a little (really).

A 540 on a Proph is big, slow, flat and beautiful.

Think I'll have to go dust mine off. Getting near the 4th of July.

Just wait until you have so many kites you can't remember which ones you have flown!  Currently in my bag that are yet to be fown are a couple of P2s, and my r-sky toxic.  the list was larger a couple of weeks ago, but I forced myself to launch a couple of standard kites regardless of the SUL type wind that was available.

The other thing that happens, to me anyway, is that as I attempt to photo document my collection, I discover kites I didn't know I had... an extra Prism Micron, Nexus and Jazz were discovered with an old HQ symphony 2.5 and a little SLK sled that must be the result of kite prolification as I have no recollection of purchasing it or receiving it as a gift.

When you start to realize your kite inventory has grown with no recollection of how... that's surely a sweet addiction to kites that no intervention group can help you with!   ;)

Photo inventory is much easier to keep.

I started with an Excel spreadsheet with way too much info:
Kite, price paid, date, purchasee, blah, blah, blah.
Data for the sake of data.
A picture is worth way more than 1000 words.

That is the best prophecy ever.

Thanks for leaving it for me in your will ;-)

Come to the funeral and it's yours.

Although, frankly, I plan on living forever.  :)

Hah, I thought I was the only one who did the spreadsheet thing.  ;)

I agree, it does get tedious to keep the spreadsheet updated.  I find that I forget to keep up on it and then have to think back on what I bought/sold over several months.

Photo documentation is a good idea, but some of the power foils and arcs I have are pretty huge.. would definitely need to have someone else shoot a pic of them while in flight.

The photo inventory is also good as proof for insurance, just in case.

Yes, I checked. Kite are covered while many collections, specifically named, are not.

I have a rider that specifically covers the kite collection in our insurance.....and the kayaks too...

If Noob defines ARA, then, you sir, are the epitomy of a Lightweight as far as a collection goes.   ::) ;D ;D

You don't have a kite problem until you buy a trailer, just to haul around your collection in.
Every series collector needs a Radian also, and a Trick Tail, and a MEFM, and at least Rev.

chilese,

I like your picture inventory idea.  Way too many stunt kites stored in my work shop.  I started a spreadsheet for the single line kites, but got overwhelmed with the stunt kites.  This is going to be my summer project.

A few years back i tried to take pictures of all of my kites....and i missed a bunch..... https://picasaweb.google.com/110977665158917743177/TheCollection started in 2007...I have added a few more pictures since then....

but i am attempting it again while getting a picture of each kite flying...see how it all goes.......

Way back in college i took a Computer Application in Business course which turned into a basic Word/Excel/PowerPoint/FrontPage class (hey it was 1997) and i did a spreadsheet of my kite inventory at the time....worked out for grades in the class.....had all sorts of info in there i.e. where purchased, how much it retailed for, what i paid, and of course what my mum thought i paid.....it was a humorous spreadsheet at the end....

Collection Conundrum?
Every time your flying this kite you ask. What about that one?
Ooh,i feel the need for speed!
Ah...winds changed time for the standard, which one?
And so on.
Or worse still! Missing Kites, sold kites, rare spare parts!
And the list goes on and on,51 Microns? now what?
The kite cup will never overflow or is it best being half empty or half full?
Oh my,I think i will order that GEMINI UL for when the winds just right, one day....... :P

.....And the list goes on and on,51 Microns?......
The REAL question is:
Do you count them as individual kites or as one stack?

I liquidated a collection that covered 20 years....over 300 kites and then there was a lot of laundry, banners and such.....including Peter Lynn Maxis....and i even sold the trailer it came in....resold value at 50k$
but i know that is not a huge amount of kites.....(my collection is somewhere around 200 covering Single line, dual line and multi lines)

No regrets....not my collection ;) I sell off people collections as they realize that they have not flown in a few years and think about how much cash is tied up in their kite bags!!!! (Plus i get first crack at what kites and stuff they have  too!!!)
