One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

In LA proper it is terrible.  Los Angeles State Historic Park on Alameda St. has a bunch of space, but it's like flying in the Oklahoma Dust Bowl.  Beaches are OK if you don't mind people walking on your lines and they get crowded on the weekend.  I am always amazed when people decide to set up camp right below a dive-bombing stunt kite... If you go near the airport, you may be told you can't fly there because 75 foot lines might bring down a jumbo jet or something... Silverlake Resevoir is another terrible spot... small, crowded...

As you can see from the abundance of kite shops in LA (precisely zero) this ain't a kite town.

If you find any decent spots please let me know

In Newport?? The Boardwalk no less??? LOL!!! It should be EPIC!!!! I can tell you allllll sorts of places to fly. I used to surf everything from Baja to Ventura County Line and everything in between. Back when I was living in L.A.

First place I would HIGHLY recommend is "toes beach". AKA: Playa Del Rey. Literally the last piece of beach before you hit the jetty and cross over to Marina Del Rey. There are condos along the boardwalk but no one ever plays in the water there because the water is a shore break beach. Meaning if you body surf there and don't break left or right you slam face first into the shoreline. I speak form experience. LOL!! In Newport you would have to go towards "the ends" of the sandy areas to fly during the day. Unless you go out early morning(before 10am) since the crowds don't usually roll in until then(at least on weekends).

Let me know if you need more specifics and or a room mate!!!! LOL!!
