Hello Builders and Makers,

I am looking for sliding bow line tensioners and solid stainless rings of various sizes for attaching lines and such. I have tried all of the local hardware stores... close, but no luck.    Any suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

bow line tensioners....the easiest thing is a button....or you could go to goodwinds and get ones like these:

or you could make your own out of beads....or you could use a prussic knot instead......

they also have closed rings and key rings too...do you need metal rings? or those be replaced with loops of line?

For stainless steel fittings, try your local marina.  I buy these from West Marina.  The only downside is that they seem to have only two of each size in the store at any one time.

The stainless steel fittings are more expensive than the galvanized ones.  But, the peace of mind from not worrying about a rust stain from the galvanized rings is worth the difference.

Cheers,
Tom

Thanks Rob and Tom, Great Stuff.

I was able to find a few of the rings at my local hardware store but I though that 1.59 each was a steep price to pay.  I have seen a few on a bidding site and have looked into those.  On the Bow Line Adjusters, I am trying to come up with a different solution.  I have some really nice ones on a GFAK rok that I purchased recently.  Simple elongated plastic pieces with three holes, very simple and effective.  I was hoping to stumble on some similar.  Great ideas though.

BTW Rob, this is for project number three.... a 6.5 foot Rok.  Lots of sewing but it has been pretty fun so far!!

Happy winds.

Look for tent guy line tensioners.

That's basically what they are.

Campmor sells an 8 pack of "line tighteners" for $2.40.

Flat, Three hole, plastic.
