One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

Next month I'll travel to the USA (in particular to Charlottesville in Virginia) for work/research at the UVa with a scholar-related visa.

Since my stay is about one month I'm planning to bring a dual line like with me (the Howitzer .88 , that can be completely disassembled to stay in the luggage).

A couple of questions:
Is Charlottesville a good place to fly? (wind, cold and so on)
Do I risk my kite being confiscated or paying a fine from the customs if they find it into my luggage (not the hand baggage)?

A month without flying is too much for me  Grin Grin

If it will break down and fit in your luggage, then I don't think you will have any problems with bringing it.  The other thing is that it's personal property that you already own.  I think customs is more concerned about citizens bringing back to the home country items they've purchased abroad that normally would have taxes & duties on the purchases.  So, bringing a kite to the USA that you are going to take home with you should be no problem at all.  I've carried kites in my luggage and by hand through customs several times, with no problems.

Yes, it is the only one that fits into a luggage. It is a scaled version of the howitzer, designed for air travels.

It has a fairly large windrange, starting from 6 kmh up to 25 (trick range), and very fun to fly.

Thank you. Hope that in Charlottesville the wind conditions are good

Same experience with customs here: No problems in about 10 international trips over the past five or six years. I took my kites as carry-on luggage each time.
