One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

I may have a full vehicle, but I'll check.

Don't know if it would be Sunday night or Monday morning.

You're killing me. Bambi might have to stay in Vegas to take care of our wheelchair bound (6 months) son Britt.

In which case, she wants me to fly to and from KP12.

This is so complicated.

I'm going down to hit a few shops south of Dave and Seal Beach. So I'll be driving late Wednesday night and returning to Vegas Sunday and miss the milkshakes to attend the western toy show in Las Vegas. SO if you want to fly one way and drive back with me that could work.

I think I'll just enjoy your company at the beach kind sir.

Thanks for the offer, but I'll probably be more of a Friday-Monday person.

Looking forward to sharing the air at Huntington Beach.

Ah, so you'll be using the Bazuka toob for the first time since 2002, then!  We are suddenly in the same boat.

Has anyone had recent experiences flying with an 8" diameter fly rod case full o' kites to KP?  If it's an oversize charge, I think I'll be traveling light (Revs plus 1 or 2 small kites) again this year.

cheers,

David

I fly with one every year and _never_ had anyone say anything. First time the person asked me what it was. I told her, kites. She looked at me. I said, like fishing rods. Nothing said after that. Ever other time (probably 5 times) no one has even asked.

The airlines looks at it like sports equipment (skies or fishing poles) so there allow the extra size. I've now been taking an over sized bag (one of the large Gomberg bags) with some soft kites. It's clearly well over the 62" or what they allow. No one has ever said anything about that. I always tell them I can cinch down the straps as it's all air and it will compress but I tell them then TSA would have a hard time. The last person told me that they don't really mind as long as it's not also over weight.

Ah, that's good to know. Thank you!  I may just try it, then.  At worst, I'll be out another $150 (and thus very cranky).  However, your past experience suggests, I'll just be happier to have a few dual-line kites with me, especially if it's a low-wind situation.
Plus, it keeps open options for kites with leading edges that don't break down, come time for the auction!  Smiley

Thanks for the response!
