One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

Michel is this yours or are you going to get it?
I might be able to get more info on it. You should be able to find Ed's kites written up in old Kitelife magazines. There was a couple versions of the VLD series.

i apologize...this might be a viper.....
Ed made Vipers to be sold only through Into The Wind.

The price was around $200.00. They are a heavier design compared to the 'Concept VLD'.

There is also the Sigma Deltas too....almost all of Ed's sport kites have the same double prism design...most of them were on a black main skin..but some were made on a rubin.....

kitelife magazine: http://www.kitelife.com/magazine-archive/ you can search through for Ed Shenk and find the issues to download.
also there is Sport Kiting and Kite Lines online as well....

Very Low Drag is referring to Ed's design that made the kite more efficient.   less drag should equate to faster forward movement in lower winds...making a great SUL kite....
You can do the opposite of the VLD concept by releasing the leech line on your kites - that will cause the trailing edge to flap away and slow the kite down...

I think Ed crossed over to custom firearms,javascript:void(0); more profitable.   He was a machinist by trade, so his kites were built to ten thousands of an inch!  I think his back is screwd-up as well, so we worked on the knees and floor most of the time.

Famous for variegated rainbow thread, sewn in unique patterns on his edge binding.  He's wind the bobbin once and then again backwards, so the two threads matched on each side.

Unbelievable levels of dedication to his craft.  It was foolish to enter any category against Ed Shenk!  He won the People's Choice one year because Harold and I were DQd (we ran an overly aggressive marketing campaign?)

I'll second all that! I met Ed & his son @ the Sun Festival in Ocean City, MD ...when he was make graduated stacks and selling them on a consignment type basis (if I remember correctly). I continued running into him at other events as his kite-builder stature rose & he remained the same down-to-earth friendly nature as when I first met him! It's good to hear he's getting back into kiting. He does the kiting community proud!
