One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

The weather here has been lousy the last few weeks, one Atlantic Low pressure system after another, lots of wind but no good for kite flying.  The Delta Hawk likes the wind, but tries to tear your arms off when it gets over 30mph.

So the other week I was in the garage and found a couple of old dead (cheap) kites along with some scraps of ripstop from an old project....and Li'l Frankie was born!  Basically a 60-70% sized Delta Hawk made from the canniblised parts of old kites! Half the pull twice the speed!

Li'l Frankie - a small kite in high winds.

Nice little fun kite you created there Smiley

Now make the spreader a little longer, like half an inch, sew some short batons on the trailing edge to quiet it down it it starts to become a nifty little beasty. Smiley
Of course it launchability will be made more difficult...

Thanks it's fun to fly.

I need to play around with the bridle a little, I based it on the Delta Flizz bridle on the HQ site but it does seem rather long for the size of the kite. It can be a little difficult to launch - it sometimes spins just above the ground until it catches the breeze, and if you get too close to the edge of the window it can flare out and flutter down to the ground.  I'm sure I can sort it out. Ok some photos.

Frankie against it's big brother the Delta Hawk

close up

Nose detail

Sail made from left over ripstop

Leading edge dacron and nose webbing scavenged from one kite

Frame fittings and most of the frame* from another
(* the leading edge was originally fibreglass but this proved to flexible so was replaced with some reclaimed 5mm carbon)

Even the bridle is made from old left over bits!

He's not pretty but it works! Made in 2 hours in my garage, total cost 0!
