It sounded like a good idea at the time...

OK, it STILL sounds like a good idea. I've volunteered to be the new Executive Editor at KiteLife Magazine.

John Barresi has owned and managed KiteLife for the last decade with the help of a slew of volunteers, including Editors such as Spence Watson and Dave "Geezer" Shattuck. He put out the word that he needed a new edit monkey and we started to talk about things. John will continue in a more behind the scenes capacity and as a regular contributor, but he wants to sort of get out of the way and let the site grow and change.

My first task will be to get normal operations back on track. KiteLife generally publishes about 100 articles/columns/reports a year, but with John and various staff tied up with other kiting and non-kiting responsibilities, the content dropped to about 1/5th of normal over the last year.

I'll be working with current and past contributors to bring back more content. I'll also be working to bring in new participants. There are lots of people in the kite world who have good stuff to write about, good photos they've made, or other skills and experience they can bring to the project. I'll be chatting with many people over the next few months.

Don't wait for me to pester you if you want to jump in with both feet. Send me a note:

I am especially interested in new ideas. KiteLife as a platform can do all kinds of things. I'm looking to make it an even more useful, interesting and fun place over the next few years. What would YOU like to see done with such a site?

Not an easy task for you my friend.

One suggestion.

As a way of detaching himself from Kitelife, you might ask Mr. B. if he would change

his GWTW name from kitelife to something less associative.

Just a thought.

And good luck.  Smiley

Congrats Allen!   How about regular columns on the history of classic kites or kite makers?  Or how about something for novice/experienced competitors to use to build their performance skills like practice routines, ballet development, and team flying techniques? Kite building articles would be nice too.

Best wishes Allen, glad to hear you've stepped up. Looking forward to see what your input brings to Kitelife.
