One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.

Hi all,

Who knows Avia G-Force Skinny SDS (Super Dooper Skinny) spars ?

Iím looking especially for the stiffness of these tubes, comparatively to Skinny UL, Skinny SUL, G-Force UL,...

I thought from the more flexible to the stiffest :

Avia Breeze UL ->  Avia Skinny UL -> Avia Skinny SUL -> Avia G-Force B-Tweeny UL -> Avia Skinny SDS -> Avia G-Force UL -> Avia G-Force SUL -> Avia G-Force B-Tweeny STD -> Avia G-Force STD.

Is that right ?

Thanks in advance for your help.  Wink

The Skinny SDS was one step above the Skinny SUL.  I have a rod spec sheet somewhere I'll hunt down for you.

I found that Goodwinds had them when I was sparing a Prism Vapor.  Expensive but appear to be OEM.

Contact Paul.

I made a chart many years ago based solely on published data.

The graph is a little busy in the area of the SDS, but 2 data points are shown.

Just go to 14 gms and up to the SDS data. It's pretty heavy. But it is flexible.

There are some other choices you might consider.

Hope this helps.

I do love a chart - thanks John!

Any chance we could add Flying Wings dynamic spars to this?  I think their SUL spar is fantastic, but have no idea how it compares technically.

Thanks,
Tom

Always available, been a year or so since I updated it but then I haven't found any new data to add to it.

I've never been able to find any deflection data on the Dynamic spars. One of our members here and over on kitebuilder, an engineer I think, took my figures and worked up an equation involving diameter and thickness that got you you a pretty accurate estimate. But without knowing the exact modulus of the carbon used it wasn't totally accurate, he did run the figures between different makes of spars and found the results were within an acceptable error percent for most kite use though. I've got that equation somewhere but haven't run it for the Dynamics. He may have but don't think I had the Dynamics on my chart when he did his work, they were the last spars I found any info on. He also added in the David Lords equations for scaling up to my Excel sheet making it quite useful for kite builders and designers wishing to scale up or down a known kite.

Connector data here - http://www.sysmatrix.net/~mikenchico/Spar_Connectors_Nocks.htm
