I'd like to try the updated standoff configuration on my Mambas, but I don't sew.

Who would like to take on the task of adding new standoff mount points to my Mamba Std & UL sails? The new hole for the inner standoff is moved away from the spine and is to be 17.5 cm from the middle standoff.

The pictures tell the story. A new standoff hole in each wing with proper reinforcements. The kite in the pictures was modified by Kevin (KaoS) and I'd bug him for the task but he is in a far off land.

If you would like to do this work for $$ or for trade let me know what it would take.  Smiley

That's a large part of the Black Mamba mod Ken was doing near the end.  He had us test it at Grand Haven.  I've done it with mine...

Sacrilege!

Nope, this is straight from on high:

"Thou Shalt Cause the Mamba to be Black, and there Shall be Rejoicing in the Verdant Fields and on the Windswept Shores"

Praise Be to the Lord Moonie!

You might as well ask Kate Upton to have plastic surgery

just to have her "try it".

Are you saying Ken disfigured his best kite by updating it?

I would have had Ken do the mod himself, but he is not available.

Looks like I've found a suitable alternate.  Smiley

It is Ken's mod really. The original IS hole will always be available for nostalgic moments.

Not sure how to bridle Kate. That suit doesn't offer much sail area. Huh She doesn't seem one to be tied down yet anyway Cheesy

just to have her "try it".

Sacrilege!

I took my "Black-ened" Mamba out yesterday, for the first time in ages.  Sorry John, I can't agree.   Grin  I am SO glad I updated my Mamba.  Winds were light on shore, and I was in heaven.

I don't normally wish for what might have been, but...  MAN I wish I'd had this kite for comps back in the 90s

Here are some notes I have for the Black Mamba:

The Black Mamba moves the inner standoff out to control speed buildup and make some tricks more accessible.  The trailing edge is flattened with equal length standoffs and the tow point moved out to control over steer. ISO moved out 3, SO spacing 6 3/4, TE offset with 10 equal standoffs, bridle out . Black Mamba settings work well on UL and Vent.

For comparison there is 3 TE offset with the original 8 1/4 inner, 11 outer standoffs.

Allen your 17.5 cm is right inline with the notes.

Kevin I love your drool smilie Smiley

Not that it is needed...

I second sending it to STapp.  I was able to see his work and his passion this past weekend.  It will be in GREAT HANDS!
