One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

I would like to get several stencils made of metal for kites that I want to build, does any one know of any place that can do this or any other material that I can use for long term stencil use?
Thank you,

Tin flashing for houses, cut with an old pair of scissors. Tip comes from Cliff Quinn.

I had the same question (thread posted by Thief in the earlier reply).  I have found that cutting my templates on a bandsaw using whiteboard material (non-magnetic) has produced excellent templates that have been lasting as long as I need them (haven't worn any of them out yet).  I cut the template slightly proud and sand on a spindle sander to get to the final finish and dimensions for the stencil.  The only time I use metal stencils is for times that I need to make inside cuts (such as the center T cutout or leading edge holes).  I typically just find supplies at the hardware store that serve the purpose... washers, electrical coverings etc.

That being said, I did look into a couple of water cutter (or laser) services to have thin metal templates made. Because I am not building kites to sell, I decided against using the service due to cost (I'd need to build at least 50 of the same kite to recover the cost of templates).  If you're plan is to make many of the same kite (or kites), it is probably worth the investment.

Should you go the way of a service for metal templates, I strongly encourage you to prepare the CAD drawings yourself.  Find out how large the raw material is and build a cutting plan that includes multiple kite plans.  You'll typically save costs if there is less waste.  The last set of advice is to call the service... don't just use an internet page.  You want to be very sure of what you're getting, know the variances they find acceptable, and know what type of cutter is being used to ensure the proper dimension is at the bottom of the template where you would be tracing with a hot cutter.

If you do a google search for "Water Cutting Services", you'll get a significant list of companies.

Best of luck!
