One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

I see where sometimes some of you will upgrade the rods in your kites.  Skyshark...Nitro's etc. So what does the nomenclature mean? I assume its a diameter/stiffness/ thing. Is there a chart somewhere that explains the difference? Is it a "force applied before the rod fails"...thing? Is there some kind of standard between manufacturers?

P SERIES
The Sky Shark P Series Straight Competition Air Frames can be cut and ferruled anywhere using a solid carbon rod. These tubes work great for building sport kites as well as single line kites.

PT SERIES
These tapered Air Frames are exceptional. They have increased stiffness up to 50%.

BLACK DIAMOND
They have a very hard clear-coat paint that makes them very smooth. The tubes are the same tubes as the standard 3PT’s, 5PT’s and 7PT’s. The only difference is they take grains, not grams of material off the tube very precisely. The amount of material in weight that is taken off is replaced by the weight of the paint.

Thanks....so if I wanted to replace the spine in my wife's Quantum...I would measure the diameter and length of the rod. It is solid...so a P-series would be used? Then find a retailer who carries these.

The rod you choose depends on what you hope to accomplish by changing out the spine.

Be aware that if you change to a Sky Shark P series rod you will need to get two and ferrule an extension as P series only come in 32.5 inch lengths (the Quantum spine is 34.25") and you'd also need to change the center T and the tail. 

Easiest (and cheapest) would be to just get an exact replacement from Prism (or your favorite Prism Authorized Dealer  )

Deflection is a measurement of the relative stiffness of a spar.

It measures how much a spar will bend under pressure and may not be a good indication of the rods resistance to breaking.  The lower the number the stiffer the rod.
