Welcome to the GWTW Forum.
Guests (non-registered users) can view the forum but are unable to post.  If you don't have anything to say then why would you bother to register?
One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

Most of the time, for my inland self, its like waiting for a wave to come.  I just stand there waiting for the tension on the lines to feel adequate, then launch into utterly disappointing flight.  But really, what an odd sight I must be to all the standing out in the middle of a field with kite strings in my hands and doing absolutely nothing for minutes on end.  Cheesy

That's where the Zen aspect comes in. I bet you're very centered ( or people just think you're eccentric.)

Either that or low wind efficiency becomes really good; pull in the air, maybe trick, or just fly around for a bit then land. Repeat

I have a theory that seems to be true for me when I haven't flown for a while and am really looking forward to a good day of flying.
A good wind forecast will always be trumped by this theory as well.
The theory goes that after I get to the kite field and get set up, the closer I get to my kite strings, the lower the wind velocity!
If I walk away from the kite, the winds come up, as I approach the kite, the winds come down.

 I hope this helps!!    Cheesy

Don't worry etully.
You are not alone.
I've been in that position.
It helps to look back and up to the tips of the trees (if you have any around) with a wrinkled forehad as if thinking "WTFITW!!!!" (in other words Where the F is the wind).
At least is anyone actually looks at your face you seem to be knowing what you're doing...  Sad

Try this on for size.  Load up get to the kite park....  Wind blowing 6-7 mph steady not bumpy...  And the entire park is packed with City sponsored kids event (which no one really attends)........ No room to fly..  Pack up and go home......
