Just wondering what a realistic low wind speed for this UL kite is without having to run all over the field?

The Freestylist UL has the same low window as the WMUL.  I have flown them both back to back many times.

Both are true ULs and fly lower that all my modern UL trick kites except the Shadow.

True bottom end is based on the pilot skill level. The freestylist is a very easy kite to fly at the bottom of the wind range. Easy to control and the sail loads up nicely.  Had my shadow for a year but was never able to fly it that low.  In light wind, quick hand movements or a sharp turn can unload the sail and stall the kite.  Never understood why the shadow would suddenly stall and I was forced to run and pump the lines to keep it in the air, with John Chilese shouting instructions to me.  Embarrassed

With the freestylist's (and WMUL too) strong feedback though the lines I felt the kite depower from my poor technique long before the kite stalls.  This allowed my to finally learn low wind skills and stop Chinese from laughing at my poor low wind style as I ran around the field.  Grin

The freestylist is such a good kite to get anybody started at a low entry price. I recommend it highly.  Cool

Just got a call from Daelyn at AWOC.  She doesn't have a Freestlist UL in my color, and either does Skyburner, so they are making one for me.  Two more weeks.

After flying mine for the first time today I can help answer this.  I took my wind meter with me today and set up the Freestylist.  The wind was a steady 1.5 mph and the Freesylist was airborn.  The kite had good presence on the lines and flew quite well.  The wind was perfect for just flying around the window with no movement.  After flicking the kite around throwing axles and fades I started into my limited trick repitoir.  The movement became more as the kite is very active and capable of combos based on body and hand movements.

I think the kite would fly below 1 mph pretty well without much movement.

My desire when buying was not the low end as much as the high end.  I think I found just what I was looking for .  As I flew today the wind picked up to what measured right around 6 mph and the Freestylist was outstanding.  Anywhere in the widow it was fantastic, snap stalls into tricks were pretty effortless.  I took off the weight and I could literally stake it in a fade and walk away.  With the weight on I was able to roll it up several times and unroll it with ease.  This is a kite that I should be able learn more tricks in time.  Very forgiving and precise in its movements.

Great Kite!!
