One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

I know this has probably been talked about previously and maybe this really should go in the Wanted area, but I wanted to get everyone's take on the kestrel. And I'm talking about the Kestrel by Joel Shultz and Sky Delights pre GFAK days.

I first saw a Kestrel when I viewed Ray Bethell's Romancing the Wind video. Not only is it a beautiful kite, but I understand it flies like a dream. I would love to put one in my kite bag someday, but can a guy find one in decent shape and would I have to hock my kids to get one?

They do come up from time to time. Certainly put a Wanted listing in place and bump it every few months. You'll have your kite in a year or so.

They look great, especially with the long tails Ray often uses, but they really aren't all that special for general flying. If you want to fly like Ray, then sure, but they are somewhat limited, a very old skool design. This from a guy who flys almost nothing but old kites.

Joel sold quite a few kites last year on the auction site, and among them were two Kestrels. One was an early production custom color version that had never been flown, it went for ~$320. The other was one of the last ones he made, also brand new, it went for a little bit more. I'm sure it would be possible to find them cheaper.

Joel also made several variants on the same sail shape, but with different birds. I know at least the Hummingbird is the same, and I think there was one other, but that was a while back.

Old skool good simple flying.....nothing fancy....nothing tricky (you can pull off an axle with date but the tail catches badly)......
Fittings were gas line tubing.....
Clean basic flying and tail pulling is what they excel at......

Love your pic library Chilese. It's gotten me out of the doldrums many times. However, these pics make me want to gravitate to the west coast and take up beach living.  Grin

JOel's website JUST ran out two weeks ago...but you can find more info on the wayback machine: http://web.archive.org/web/20140106093708/http://skydelight.com/

If I remember correctly there was ~7 or 9 stock colors that Neptune came in, and then some customs were also made too....
