One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

I have a side project that I have been working on for the last few months. It was somewhat of an experiment with different technologies, and has been very much a learning experience. But, today I am ready to announce the beta launch of kitepaint.com.

This is a beta launch, so the project is at the point of usability, but is not yet finished. The reason I am beta launching this is to get some more eyes on the project to find bugs that I may have missed, and to see what public opinion is and how it may influence changes to the site.

I am launching with only one product at the moment, the Revolution B-Series PRO. But, I am hoping to add more to the site in the future.

Feel free to play around on it, and let me know what you think!

Thanks,
Watty

Hi Watty:
I guess after looking at the site I am confused as to what is it and what does the site do?
Cheers

Hi Watty,

I registered but then the site wouldn't accept my password.

Had the site open for me through email.

Password still does not work nor was I given a new password.

I understand the concept, but the execution could use some work.

Looking forward to painting the Icy.

@Rob,

The idea of the site is to be a collection of kite colorizor applications. Users can create, save, and share their color designs through the site. Right now, I only have one product on there, but I plan on adding more in the future.

@John,

Hmm.. Never had a lot of issues with the login stuff.. There are some restrictions on password creation:
must be 6-15 characters long, have no spaces, and may use the following characters: a-z, A-Z, 0-9, #, @, *
I'll mess around and see if I can recreate the issue.

Not sure what you mean by "Had the site open for me through email."

I'll post back with anything I find.

Okay, got a 2nd email with my temporary password.

Can I change the password? I'll go back and look around.

Make the CREATE button bigger and more noticeable (perhaps

flying around in the shape of a Rev).

Hmm, ok. Yea, I see an account made and activated for you, John. I'm guessing you went through the reset password process? That emails you a temporary password that you can change in the information tab in the account page (accessible in the menu in the top right after logging in)

I was confused as there were 2 emails.

The 2nd had the new password.

Can it be changed?

The coloring model needs a RESET button.

I would also have a 2nd column labeled CENTER PANEL OPTIONS

with only the allowable colors under it.

Not sure why you got two emails. When registering, users should get an activation email. If you clicked on "forgot password" and went through that process, then it would send a temporary password email.

The password can be change in the account page after logging in (http://kitepaint.com/#/account)

Reset button is definitely something I overlooked. I'll create a ticket for it.

The reason I don't have a separate column for center panel options is because this site is not made specifically for Revolution products. The idea is that other manufacturers could sign up and be included on the site. The separate column probably wouldn't apply to any other products. I have been kind of struggling with finding a good way to make it obvious about panels that have restricted color options. My current solution was to have the notes at the bottom of the editor. I'm open to suggestions.

I think I see where the confusion may have come from. After registering, a message popped up that said "You have created an account". It should say something more like "You have created an account. An activation email has been sent to your email address." I've made the change and will push it live.

The coloring model needs a RESET button.

Just published a change that adds this feature. It is in the settings menu (click on the gear icon)

Rubin does not have an E on the end. but other than that this is fun.
Maybe Reed or Ken or others could share his images with you to get more going!

This is some very nice work, Watty. My only confusion is that I can't seem to make the "AutoFill" feature do anything, but I'm probably missing something obvious. I'd say it's a great success for a Beta launch. Any progress on getting more manufacturers on board with additional templates?

Oh, never mind...I just figured out what it was doing Tongue. I was expecting something to happen on the pattern I was currently editing, but I now see the edits propagating to the other thumbnails. It makes sense to have that feature, which should be a nice time-saver.
