After 6 years in picturesque but almost entirely un-flyable Carpinteria, my family and I have moved just down the coast to Ventura CA. I used to try and get down here a couple of times a year, but I haven't flown in any sort of group setting since Dan Rubesh passed away. Now I find I can get away for even a short fly almost any weekend day.  So where are any locals flying these days? I went recently to the old Oxnard park spot, but the soccer and picnic crowds had taken the side of the park previously used, so I wound up back at Ventura harbor, across from the harbor village. Not bad, but lonely Sad

So, anyone flying in Ventura, and where and when these days.

I fly at Oxnard Beach Park on the grass area closest to the beach with a fellow forum member. If you get there early enough 9:00 or so you can usually set your kites up and fly. Most people will respect the space we are flying in. Although this past Sunday they had a big Karate thing going on. So we mainly just flew some single lines.

We try to go a few times a month on the weekends either Saturday or Sunday.

Lee, When I'm in the area I usually fly at Port Hueneme Beach Park about 25 mins or so away from ventura.. not much grass but plenty of sand.. If you are in the Oxnard area and love eating fish stop by Hook Line and Sinker.. Amazing fish!!

Great to know Oxnard beach park is still a spot. It's a nice park, decent wind, and less sand in the bags Smiley Smiley I'll probably stay away this weekend, and next weekend gets into my daughter's b-day, but maybe I'll cross paths with some of ya by the end of July. Also, I know Fisherman's Catch, down at the end of Victoria, does good fish too, and the often cook and sell what they catch.

Hi Lee,
I live in the UK but have stayed in Carpinteria a few times during surfing pilgrimages on your beautiful coast. This was before I took up kiting. I'm curious why it was largely un-flyable there. No nice breezes off the Pacific?

I also stayed in Ventura quite a bit. Bought a couple of longboards from Steve Walden and caught some of my best waves at C Street.

Next time I come I'll bring kites too!

When you decide to go to Oxnard Beach park send me an email or PM. I will meet you there.
