Question #1 Can anyone tell me where I can purchase Dynamic spars?

Question #2 Is it possible to replace D15 spars with Sky Shark P300 (LE) and D18 with Sky Shark 5PT (LS).

This is a mod Iím considering for a Flying Wings Soul std. I love the way the soul flies and pitches. If Sky Shark would add a negative influence I would not try the mod.

Thanks,
Gray

A more direct replacement would be 5PTs & 7PTs. I believe both are a bit stiffer than the D series of a similar weight. Replacing tapered LEs with straight tubes can change the kite's balance, both in terms of weight and where the flex is along the LE. But, P300s are cheaper, so you could give 'em a try, but it would definitely change the kite somewhat. Might be for good. Might not.

I have a "standard" Soul that is framed with P200 leading edges and 5PT lower spreaders.  Back to back comparisons with a standard Dynamic framed Soul show VERY little difference, mainly the Skyshark one has a slightly lower wind range.  It still pitches just as well as the Dynamic model.

The only reason mine has a Skyshark frame... a friend of mine damaged the leading edge fabric on his Soul.  He got a new sail from Flying Wings and gave me the damaged one. I repaired the damaged sail and framed it in spars I already had.

I love the kite!  So much so I bought a Soul Vented and a Soul UL.  Love them all!

Dynamic's aren't technically available ... other than as replacements for Flying Wings Kites.  That said if you let me know exactly what you want I can get what you need.

The issue with mixing and matching Dynamic with Syy Shark rods ... the internal diameters are slightly different so using a female Sky Shark with a male Dynamic won't work as the ferrule used on a Dynamic rod is too large to fit the Sky Shark and the other way around the Dynamic is slightly loose on a male Sky Shark rod.

I've been dealing with this for years as i struggle to keep an aging stable of TrickTails airworthy.

Drop me an email with details of exactly what you are looking to accomplish and I am sure I can help you out.

I replaced the LS d18 on my silver fox with 7pt's and the kite was fine. nothing really changed in the flying, like Steve said above, you can't mix them up, so even tho i had broken only one one spar i replaced them both, with a new ferrule as well to keep the kite balanced.

good luck.

I need to update my previous post.  Flying Wings has now made their Dynamic rods available as both made to fit replacement parts and as uncut rods in lengths of 32.5 and 40 inches.
