One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

Lately I've been experimenting with Kite Aerial Video. The summer has been crap and it's been raining almost every day, so to kill some time I've made a rig for my video camera.

Today the rain finally stopped and it was time for the initial flight!

Very nice. I would love to be able to do that but the winds here in Chico are not steady enough. Would be breaking a lot of cameras with the up and down and every changing directions of our wind. Keep us posted on how it goes.

My "other hobby" is high powered rocketry.

There is a fella I've met and flown rockets with who markets on-board video equipment to put in rockets to video the flight, very similar to KAP or "KAV"  Cheesy

Here's the website:

At the Airwaves festival in Cincinnati, OH this past April, a fella on the flight line near me was also a rocketeer and was flying with a booster vision camera on a Gomberg Falcon delta.  He was not a KAP'er and didn't have a picavet or any type of stabilizaiton system (it was just dangling from the line in front of the keel and tow point) but he did have the downlink system set up and we we could watch the live video feed from the camera right there on his laptop.  Totally cool.

I believe they are set up to record video and download later with the live downlink being an added cost option.  They can certainly take a lot of abuse and shock load (the forces realized by the onboard equipment in a high powered rocket application are *significantly* higher than those that a kite would apply, even if you crashed your kite   Wink )

Art Upton, the owner of Booster Vision, is a great guy and when I take a break from spending my kite dollars on other things I am definitely going to get some of his equipment (and I'll use it in my rockets too)

Here's a direct link to the page with videos taken by his equipment in rocket launches, RC cars, and RC aircraft.  The ones near the top are taken on high thrust, high altitude, high powered rockets.

I'm tellin' ya', this stuff would be *excellent* for taking video with a kite.
