Welcome to the GWTW Forum.
Guests (non-registered users) can view the forum but are unable to post.  If you don't have anything to say then why would you bother to register?
One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

Many of you never knew the old GWTW Forum. There were literally thousands of threads, most about kites, some on other subjects. I feel compelled to at least give you a glimpse of what you missed. So I'll just start the ball rolling and hope that other "old users" jump in with germane subjects past covered.

My favorite non-kite related thread was entitled:

Wife Phrases

It went on for many pages of replies and was linked to in other kite forums. Within that thread was a reply by Alberto (IIRC) in which he compares his approach to his wife as if he were a WWII submarine. I must have read that individual post over a dozen times. Steve Brown commented if he had read the thread before he got married, it would have saved him a lot of grief. All in all, the most humorous thread in my mind.  Cheesy Grin

Page 1:  Anybody flown that new Nirvana UL?

Page 5: Democrats are a bunch of socialist pinko atheists that want to take your guns away!

Page 7: Locked.

That's pretty much the gist of it, at least in the last couple of years.

In the first couple of years we talked about kites, technique, competitions and festivals, and videos.

"lock the thread"...where's your dang sense of adventure anyway? Lock and load the thread, pilgrim!

The thread that really sticks out in my mind is maybe the only thread that got transposed here, well, kinda. Al Hargus' "The History of Sport Kite Competitions", what a read of kite history that is, and well worth anyone's time to go from start to finish that is interested in kiting and competition history.

I may have talked about those things but it was only to bait someone into a flame war. Those were the good old days.

I posted some Old GWTW threads in Beginners Forum and I have a bunch more that I harvested before the old site disappeared if anyone is interested. A hassle to format, but some nice content. A lot of the fun banter from back then seems inappropriate around here, though.

I remember when the busiest threads were deciding if we were going to Baylands or Shorline for the afternoon. Smiley

Then you moved away.

You ****!    Smiley

My favorite thing about the old forum was a certain term of endearment that I can't say here for fear of upsetting certain people.

Not from me.

I did like the time when I put up the Vented Air F/X kites for sale on April Fools day. Then skream put all my kites up for sale on my now defunct website which he ran. That was funny and shocking.  Huh

pretty darn good summary of a lot of responses to a lot of threads from the old board! Funny to see all those posts summed up in six short sentences...
