Bridle Wear (Soul Idea)

One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.

Last weekend, I burned through another bridle on my Fearless. When I tied the new one, I took an idea from my Soul.
I used a piece of electrical wire with the metal core pulled out.


I'll see how it works....

Looks like a great idea. It will be a long time before that wears out. I don't think there is anyplace for it to snag. Looks Good.

could probably use small guage heat shrink tube also?  It comes in colors too.....

Cool idea!

Its the only thing I have found that I think could be improved on the Fearless - that baby sits so deep in a turtle that it wears on the bridle (but its worth it!).  My SUL is a few JLs away from coming undone!    The Light and Standard have much thicker bridle there, but they are getting a little "fuzzy".

I put some clear tape between the standoffs which seems to have slowed down the wear.  I will look into your solution.

I know I do far more tricks-per-minute on my Fearless than any other kite that I've owned, so I imagine the wear may be no worse than others seen that way. 

Its sort of like having to replace tires on a high performance sports car more often than you do on a minivan, I guess.

I have been using Steve's Moonie tape on the LS in the wear areas and that seems to work pretty well without changing anything.  I still figure about a bridle per year per kite.

Has anyone taken this idea farther down the leadout to where it comes in contact with the trailing edge to help prevent wear there?
I agree with the moonie tape - wonderful stuff. Also works really well at the upper spreader wear patch.

Ironic you said that. I was getting ready to post that I have Drinking Straws placed between the stand-off holders on the lower spreaders on my Shadow. I've had to hunt down straws with a large enough diameter to fit. I found red ones that fit at AM/PM stores.

This idea would really save some wear and tear on trailing edges.

I have been burning through an outhaul about every 9 months. After flying the new set up for a few days, I can notice no difference in the feel of the kite.
The inhaul was getting fuzzy for the first time after 3 years, so I replaced it also. My trailing edge is wearing, so I re-enforced it with Gaffers Tape.
I may look and some of your ideas for the trailing edge with future kites.
