One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

Barry "Whatakite" Ogletree is getting out of kiting altogether.  He's selling off all his remaining kite gear most of which is big stuff.  If anyone is interested you can find what he has available at gallery.whatakite.com.  Sorry, haven't figure out how to post a link yet.

Still lots of stuff. A lot less than when first posted, but still a lot.

Unique sale in that it's not often that you see stuff like this for sale. Also, very good/reasonable prices. Some stuff is expensive just because it's very big but still a fraction of what it would normally sell for.

Problem is, most is so large it requires someone who flies larger kites. It's a smaller market place.

Built some of these kites when Barry was doing his kite kits. My intro into large kites.  Cool

Nothing bigger than 200, because I usally fly alone and limited space in the desert.

Still dreaming of picking up something bigger  Roll Eyes

This is very very tempting

I just went out to see what was left and was amazed at how much stuff has already been sold. Shocked  I don't know what the prices were but they must have been pretty low for some of that stuff.  I'm pleased to think that these kites will be in the sky somewhere again.

There is still a lot of good stuff available. Granted, a few reasonably sized kites and more much larger specialized stuff. Who can't use a 300' long, 50' tall spin sock?

The kites and items are big so they are a little expensive but make no mistake, the prices on them probably don't even cover the cost of the materials. A $1600 flow form for $450? Money... yes, but crazy low price.

The bigger win is that these type of kites don't usually come up for sale. As noted above, you can always buy them new but not many of us can pay those prices. But it's also tough to sell bigger kites because.... who needs another kite? Just kidding... it's tough because owning a big kite puts you smack in the middle of the crazy kite owning club.

I'm good friends with Barry but I do know we all have opinions about other people. I am also disappointed to hear this. Regasrdless of what anyone thinks, Barry is a WEALTH of kite information (single line). I've had conversations with him where my brain just went into over-load with the amount of data going in. He also helped a LOT of kite festivals and usually paid his owe way to them to fly kites just to help out.

So yes, it's sad to see him get out of kiting. But... we all know it's easy to get sucked back in! I bought a few kites but I don't think I'll ever consider them mine... Barry is welcome to them at any time.

I spent some time on the phone with him Monday about a kite and he was as nice and congenital as could be.
