One of the most popular sections of the GWTW Forum has long been the Swap Meet.  A great place to sell old, seldom flown kites or to get great deals on used (gently flown) kites.  Only registered users can see the Swap Meet section, let alone wheel and deal.  1000's (literally) of kites have changed hands thanks to the Swap Meet.
There are several more benefits to being a registered user, but you'll have to join our little community to find out all the "secrets".

Bring the entire family to experience the color and excitement of kite flying during the Annual Kite Day. Watch the sky dance with fun and imaginative kites-an afternoon of fun is in the air! There will be prizes for the best homemade kites! All kite flyers will receive a souvenir, compliments of Bird in Hand, and music will be provided by Oldies 102.1 FM. Celebrate spring at the end of a string!

I'll have a few of the new single line kites from Prism on display (thanks Sandy).

Thanks Steve, I hadn't made the call to Bob yet.

We get thousands of people on the field, Literally. Chico loves an excuse to get together and rub shoulders with our neighbors. This being the first event of Spring and the year it gets a big turnout. Mostly families with a picnic and dime store kites, but usually somebody pops in with something pretty unique they've made or had in the back of the closet for 20 years. No room to fly sport kites except early & late but if you want to see a sky full of kites Chico Kite Day is the place to be, approximately 70 acres full of kites.

The forecast is for mostly sunny skies and temps in the mid 70's.
Maybe I should build a new SLK.

You should, you know you won't get much chance to fly those Talons, by the time the crowds thin out the wind does too.

I never heard if you got that Fled done, hope you can get the Bulldog up.

That report was from the RAWS (remote access weather station) at the airport.
You can find it here:  http://raws.wrh.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/roman/raws_ca_monitor.cgi?state=NOCC&rawsflag=2&timeobs=12&orderby=n&type=0

Scroll down to Sac Valley and you'll see Chico.
Looks like a good day for the Bulldog.  Cool

I would love to see some photos from the days events.

I had my camera but didn't take any pictures. I wish I had my video camera with me though. There were a couple of people flying dual line kites in 30+ mph wind. I thought for sure those kites were going to explode in the gusts. But they didn't. One gal broke her line set but not her kite. Another guy was flying a kite that looked like it was framed with 4mm rods. I couldn't believe that thing didn't collapse. According to the RAWS @ Chico Airport the wind was blowing in the 30 to 40 mph range.  Shocked

I find the same for me. I bring the camera and get so involved I forget to take photos.
Sounds like a good time. I'll try to make it next year.

I'll try to make it next year.

You don't really need to wait that long...

We could hook up at "Sierra Nevada" early one weekend( remember, Oatmeal Stout is a breakfast food),  and then throw up some kites with the "Chico Boys" in the afternoon.

I've been wanting to make that trip for a while now.

They don't open until 11:00 but we could have a late breakfast of stout. Or get torpedoed for lunch.  Cheesy

And its the time of year for their ESB.  Cool
